I bought a used bcm and somethings were mistaken with the rail (said it was an alpha but it was the old kmrs) So I took it apart to inspect and make sure nothing else was lied about. It was said to be a complete bcm elw upper built by bcm. Is this a bcm elw barrel? It looks different than the pictures on the website. Also what is that stuff around the barrel nut? my other BCMs dont have that. I will attach pictures.

Looks like the ELW profile barrel.

The stuff by the barrel nut is lithium grease. It'suppose to be there. All my factory BCM uppers have had it. The barrel looks like the right profile to me.

Okay cool, I had another question. When I inserted a full mag everything felt normal but when I pulled the charging handle back it seems to take a little extra strength to get it to start moving and also feels a bit sluggish while chambering a round is that normal for a bcm?

Can’t speak to the barrel, but both of my BCMs have the grease around the barrel nut. Looks normal.

You ask about feeling drag when charging a round. Mine feel like every other AR I’ve ever handled. No difference that I can tell. Are you riding the charging handle or pulling it all the way back and letting it go?

Sometimes uppers feel “tight.” It doesn’t need to break in to function, but it will break in and feel less tight.

I’m not really sure what is actually wearing as there are a lot of places that have friction at that point in the cycle, and some of them will wear physical metal away to a point.

Show a pic of the 12 o'clock position forward of the gas block should have "hp mp 1/7 5.56 nato" rollmarked on it

Is the upper as new as it looks? If so it's probably just stiff. Shoot it wet for a couple hundred rounds. If your life depends on it working download to 28 rounds per mag to eliminate a potential issue when reloading with a closed bolt.

Mine are marked in front of the block. Between the gas port and muzzle. It’s possible bcm changed, but that’s where mine are. For reference, mine are several years old.

Forgot to say... There is nothing wrong with the original KMR rail other than it isn't idiot proof. Neither is the Alpha version.

here a picture of the marking and also the bolt face to see if it also looks normal.

If you look on BCM's web sight that is the how they mark and where they mark the newer style 14.5" barrels. My two are 16" gov. type barrels and are marked forward of the gas blocks. No expert but it sure looks like a BCM barrel to me.
