View Full Version : Transferring Canadian AR's to America

Good Morning,

As most know, the Canadian Liberal gov't has banned the AR15 and given 2 years to get rid of them.
Is there a market for Americans to purchase Canadian registered AR's or is the cross border paperwork too much to take?

The real question is how do we get L119A2 uppers and Colt Canada MRR uppers here.

Is this something we can lobby our CONgresscritter for on OUR end? To grease the skids and make the "reception" part easier?

They should be using them to shoot tyrants... not move them elsewhere.

And likely a no-go for most of the newly banned models (from the article you linked above):

While most firearms can be imported to the U.S., there are certainly some that cannot. Generally speaking, the smallest Prohibited handguns (those with a barrel length less than 3 inches, and some others) cannot be imported, regardless of whether they originally came from the U.S. or not. Further, any military-related guns must be at least 50 years old, in their original configuration, and not have been in a proscribed country for at least the last 5 years (applications for such firearms must include a ‘five year history letter’ as well as a certification that such statements are true). All firearms must meet a sporting purposes test, meaning certain tactical style firearms may not be importable to the United States. If you are working with a professional service, they can advise you with some confidence as to which guns are importable; otherwise, it can take many months of attempts with the ATF to learn the ultimate admissibility of a given model.

So anything that fails the "sporting purpose test" (thanks GCA '68) is off limits, as is anything that came out of China in the last 5 years.

Amen to that.

Presuming the Canadians will rejoice at remaining a repressed, socialist, satellite of "mutha England," wouldn't KLIN - TON I's import ban still limit ANYTHING stamped "Norinco" made from '94 onward - even if it came SECOND-hand from Canadia?

Yeah, I think you're right about that.

Apparently there was a law passed in the '90's that prohibited American AR's from being imported back in USA. Only the original importer can do it. But they won't...

This will have to do

Has the Canadian government said what the buy back deal will be paying? I wouldn't want to sell it to the gov but it may be the only way the owner of a $600 AR can come out with any $$$. When Trump gets his second term our used market will take another dump. I wouldn't be surprised if half of the US AR manufacturers give up. Not a good time to sell AR15 rifles in the US much less trying to export them.

The Bush I law against importing complete self loading rifles in 1989 followed by Bush II in 2005 banning imported self loading rifle barrels and receivers.
