This story came out a couple weeks ago but the previous news reports and articles didn't name the "girlfriend". But several online gun bloggers did name the girlfriend. This article finally named her. Interestingly, he did all the shooting, she didn't.

Occam's Razor says she did not have a gun. But at least she was not condition white and was able to see threat and alert Baldwin.

A lot of chatter about this on the local board in the last couple of weeks. The consensus obviously good shoot but most questioned why eat a cheeseburger in a parking lot at almost 2am during all this mess going on. Some speculated on Dad’s connections to Metro. Bobby Baldwin is a former pro poker player and current Casino exec. Previously ran the Bellagio. It’s been interesting to say the least but either way, glad the good guy is still around. If you look around the net enough, you’ll see the guy can shoot and is fairly quick coming from AIWB holster. BG definitely made a poor decision in target selection.

I do not see anything unusual about late night fast food. It is Vegas, a 24 hr city. If it is 3am and I have the munchies, don’t get between me and that White Castle....

“On April 22, 2020, at approximately 2 a.m. at Tropicana and Fort Apache in Las Vegas Nevada, BJ Baldwin, President of Baldwin Motorsports Las Vegas, had just finished a late night dinner with his girlfriend when 2 men approached quickly. One of them had a gun directly pointed at the girlfriend and began to fire.
“The girlfriend sought cover and the gunman then directed his attention to BJ and began to fire several times at BJ, who also sought cover. BJ, who possesses a valid concealed weapons permit, returned fire and the shooter went down.
“BJ did not engage the other man as the man ran away. BJ and his girlfriend immediately jumped into BJ’s car, left the scene and called 911. Metro has informed us that BJ acted in self-defense.
“BJ is continuing to cooperate with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office.”

The whole thing is a bit odd. Supposedly the guy had a beef with the gun store in that parking lot and was throwing rocks at it. I had read that the brother went with him because he had a feeling he was going to cause trouble and wanted to save him from himself. Like I said, odd. So then, he goes from throwing rocks to directing his ire at a guy 80 yards across the parking lot? Take all of that with a grain of salt obviously.

The name matches for sure. The dead sibling was 43 so a 15 year age gap. Anything is possible but obviously Smith is a common name and some distance between the burglary and the shoot out (Around 25 miles).

Nice when the good guys win.

Most shoot situations are ambushes of some variety so it doesn't always go that way. Even in NY when they were taking out cops and LE was on point for ambushes, the bad guys were still keeping a significant advantage.
