I just had my old school 2nd gen Glock 19 texturized because it's really slick. The guy who did it is a new NoVA gunsmith (NoVA needed another great gunsmith) he also undercut the trigger guard so I can get a little higher up on the gun. I felt his aggressive grip and it was a little too rough and would catch on my clothes and eat up my shirts. So I asked for something softer but still non-slip, something that wouldn't snag. It turned out great.
The name of this gunsmith who worked on my Glock 19 is Sam Hatfield (yes like the Hatfield vs. the McCoys!:p). He did a fantastic job, and turnaround time can't be beat (1 day!). I'm going to have him do a grip reduction on my wifes G19 3rd gen with a grip chop so it'll take Glock 26 mags. A friend of mine had that done to his G19 2nd gen by Hatfield. I saw it when I was dropping mine off.

Sam Hatfield is located in Manassas VA in Old Town. He's a former US Army AMU gunsmith (worked with Tony Kidd and knows almost all of the US Army pro shooters). I've handed some other stuff he's worked on and he does some incredible work. He's got a FEG PA-63 pistol which he worked on that has DA and SA trigger pulls which feel like Ernest Langdon Beretta trigger pulls (usually PA-63s feel horrible). Hatfield specializes in 1911s. He can be reached at 703.369.GUNS or on his website at http://www.hatfieldsgunsmithing.com/

Impressive. How do you like the undercut trigger guard?

I like it a lot. Since I've been shooting a Glock since 1987 I have a callus on my middle finger knuckle. With the undercut trigger guard I can get just a little higher and have a little more comfortable grip.

That looks great! I wouldn't mind having that done to my 2nd Gen because you're right, they're slippery little buggers.

I'd like to see Trio's G19 too. If you talk to him tell him to post some pictures.

looks good!

I keep meaning to stop in there and have a look at the shop (I drive by it every day on my way home from work).

I see that he offers instructional courses - I'd love the opportunity to get back into machine work...

i will try and find my camera and get some pics up tonight...

great guy, great work..

i had him do a grip reduction on my 3rd gen g19 and G17, and remove the finger grooves. undercut it, and do the rough texture....GotM4 he let me hold your G19 today when I picked up one of mine...that smooth one is nice too..I think that may be the route I go for my wife...

the Glock CCO is really, really cool....thats what I have taken to calling the G19 with the G26 grip chop.....

I will get pics up later....

but the quality of work can't be beat, and he did THREE of my guns between Sunday noon and this morning....

ETA: here are the pics...sorry about their crappiness...I am a crappy photographer with a crappy camera....GotM4, I can bring it by if you want to snap some better ones...

I stopped in and talked to Sam today - nice guy! He didn't have any Glocks on hand, but I got to feel the 'fine' texture stippling on an HK and it felt great.

I plan to drop my 2nd gen G19 off for stippling and undercut in the near future...

Beautiful work, I like! Whats the reason for going so far forward on the Left side?

I shoot with a 'gamer' grip. I get very high up and forward on the gun. Unlike some instructors who teach against contact with the gun. I maintain as much contact as I can get with the frame with my reactive/support side thumb. My grip pressure is about 75% from the reactive/support side and 25% from the shooting hand.

Hey GotM4, what's the difference between the "gamer" grip and a non-gamer grip? Your grip in those pictures looks like the grip I use .

Wow your local guy did a nice job. I just saw the pictures on SigForum too. Did it cost less than what someone like Bowie would charge?

I had Sam Hatfield texturize my 3rd gen OD Glock 17 as well. It turned out very nice also. The last two pics are what the 2-dot Warren night sights look like.

I got the 19 used this year. It's a 1989 gun with about 1K rounds through it and lots of holster wear......I've been wanting to get one of these again since I sold mine back in 1994.

The 17 is the one I bought in 2004 or 2005 and is the pistol I used to make master in GSSF (I won 3 Glocks with it)....no combat but just under 20K rounds have gone through it in training classes/competition and just practice.

20K rounds through the 17? Its seen quite a bit of action. What models did you win?

A Glock 32 (I gave to my wife) and a 34 and 35, sold both the 34 and 35.

I did these myself. First the g19, then the 35, finally the g34. I also heated the backstrap over a candle and pushed in for a Poor Man's grip reduction as well.
(Bowtie at GT was my inspiration) Needless to say, the first stick is the toughest.

Would it not have been easier to just slide a Hogue grip on them?

No that's counter productive. Makes the gun bigger and it stick to my cover garment. If I wanted a bigger gun I'd carry a G21SF....YMMV.

Not bad dojpros. I did my G31 that I recently sold. I've also done my STI frame (my race gun for Limited division). When I get a new plastic frame for it in the future I'll have Sam Hatfield texture it too.

Here's what my Limited gun looks like with my work on the frame (that lighter colored part is ProGrip (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/Store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=7619) I use at matches).

Gotm4 is spot on re the hogue hand all IMHO. They also rotate on the grip out of position over time, even is you use spray glue or hairspray to keep them in place.
If rubber drives the train, bycycle tube is the way to go though it is pretty "tacky" re cover garments.

Gotm4, that is quite a blaster. I have only done grips fro a Para. I have never owned a wide body 1911. I "feel" like it is more art than science to keep them up and running, particularly as a fighting gun. Having said that I am also afraid that I could start to really like them and spend $$$.

I recently had Sam Hatfield texture my Gen 2 Glock 17 as well. I picked up this Glock a while back. It's a blue label Glock. Next week I'm picking up a Gen 1 Glock 17 that someone recently put on consignment. I checked the manufacture date, it was made in March of 1987, I won't be texturing it but I have replaced all its internals with new parts. I also installed a set of Sevigny cut Warren Tactical sights, it's going to be my GSSF gun.

Here's my Gen 2 Glock 17.

A really good job on the 2nd Gen.G19. I remember seeing pictures you posted of that Glock before the work was done. The undercut trigger guard looks factory production,so great job on that too. I thought the Glock knuckle was a disease that couldn't be cured, but this looks like it fixes that.
I like the texturing, looks like just the right amount grippiness, and it doesn't cover the entire grip of the pistol. A great improvement over the grenade checkering. I have three second Gen.G19's so your post may end up costing me some money.:D But,well worth it I'm sure. 2nd Gen's are keepers.

Nice users GotM4. I don't feel so bad having multi same models and encourages me to feed the sickness when opportunity presents itself :)

Looks like fun mods that feed a purpose.

I did my Gen 3 G17 myself, in a different style. I wanted to experiment a little.

The finger grooves don't line up with my fingers at all, so I ground them off with a Dremel and did the texture with a medium sized screwdriver blade in a soldering iron.

The people that have seen it have either loved it or hated it, nothing in between. I ike it, so I guess that's all that counts.

Here is some texturing I had done on my S&W M&P grip inserts by "ColdBore Customs". IMHO they do the most factory looking texturing that I have seen along with low prices and fast turnaround times. They pay great attention to detail and its done right the first time. One insert has their carry texture and the other their tactical (more aggressive) texture. These Pics with their lighting and reflections don't do his work justice.

Needless to say, the first stick is the toughest.

No joke. I recently bought my first plastic gun (an M&P9 FS) and decided I wanted some more traction. I practiced on the back straps I didn't want, got it to look and work the way I wanted and textured the back strap i was actually going to use. Then I sat there for about 5 minutes passing the frame back and forth between my hands before I could bring myself to touch the soldering iron to it to start the index marks...
