This happened in our town last night. Extremely unexpected because as their captain says, he's worked there 25 years and never had an officer shot. Ordinarily our town is one of those places that things like this don't happen.

Little is known about shooter yet. Prayer for the protection of the entire Bothell PD, and the family of the officer who died.

I spent a lot of time in Bothell growing up, spent many of summers there staying with my Dad. It used to be a nice, just far enough out of Seattle suburb as I remember.

Terrible tragedy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family involved.

Oh, and I'm sorry to even have to bother saying this (but in these times of dishonest reporting it seems necessary, since nearly all the media are taking great pains to hide it): the suspected shooter of the white police officer was a black man (https://www.wftv.com/news/trending/1-police-officer-shot-dead-another-injured-after-pursuit-washington-state/IE7CLG3KCNFE3LC7DOSOMJ6PGM/).

Police are still searching for the suspected gunman, who fled on foot, according to KIRO. Authorities described him as a Black man clad in a gray tank top and baggy sweatpants. He also has a large Afro and is carrying a handgun, police said.

I lived in Bothel for 3 years 1975-1977 and have fond memories from back then.

So sad, I spent my first 19 years in Bothell. I left in 2001 and have only been back to visit. I hardly recognize the area any more. Bothell PD let me off the hook for several stupid things. Always nice guys and gals when they would talk to us.

We learned some more about the circumstances of the shooting today. Here's a news story describing how the chase and shooting unfolded, confirmed by video footage. Short version: the officers tried to make a traffic stop and the suspect fled. He hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk, ended up hitting the center median in the road, and his vehicle stopped. As the officers came driving up behind, he exited his vehicle and fired multiple rounds into the cruiser. After killing Office Shoop and wounding his partner, he escaped on foot and was later arrested.

In addition to the official news story, here's an unconfirmed allegation on a conservative blog that the shooter was a member of Black Lives Matter. Based on material from the suspect's FB page, which Facebook has already removed, per their SOP. So we have an unconfirmed--but conceivably authentic--story about a BLM activist who murdered a cop. I'll take this with a healthy grain of salt at this point, until there's more evidence. But I do think it's important we have all the facts in these cases: who was the shooter, what was his background, what were his motives, what group(s) was he affiliated with? Will we ever be allowed to know the truth, if the online social media giants, and the mainstream media, work overtime to suppress it and hide it from us? But I think we need to know: if we're having a national debate about "defund the police", and the war on cops, and whether organizations like BLM, Antifa, et al are domestic terrorists fomenting organized preplanned insurrection and murder, then we need to get to the bottom of individual cases like this one. The voters need to know what is REALLY going on, what these groups really do and stand for.
