A few years back my brother built an AR with one of these barrels https://www.rainierarms.com/rainier-arms-mountain-series-cold-hammer-forged-barrel-5-56mm-nato/
It is a great barrel. He gets great accuracy out of it, and so far it has proved to be quite durable. I would like to get one, but Rainier Arms stopped carrying them. Can anyone recommend a simular barrel?

Centurion arms and hodge defense will give you the best CHF chrome lined barrels available today.

The Rainier Mountain were FN CHF; you can basically get the FN branded in the same profile/configurations.

Primary arms has had the FN barrels in stock and on sale recently. It is the same barrel

The Centurion barrel recommended above is also great. DD makes a good CHF chrome barrel as well. I have had the best accuracy results overall with DD(not by much), but sample size is small with the others.

If you're running a suppressor. If you're not, flawlessly running anything other than full power mil-spec ammo might prove tricky with Hodge or Centurion barrels

Depends on the gas port specs of the Hodge. There are "optimized" specs for cans that don't like heavier than usual buffers or spring and more forgiving spec'd gas ports for non-suppressed use.

With regards to the Centuriuons, the 12.5's are the only ones that I've seen to be conservatively gassed. Most of the others (especially 16" middy's) are ported a little large for most people's liking.

DD's the same way...some are conservatively ported, others on par with commercial "standards", and a few hotdog down a hallway ports.

So...pretty safe to say that blanket statements for brands are incorrect and that it's configuration dependent

I know that my Brother's BBL was medium contour. I am seeing now that Rainier does not list one, and niether does FN.

Centurion offers a medium contour.. OOS currently but they are awesome barrels https://www.centurionarms.com/hammer-forged-barrel-midlength-p/hfb-mw-ml.htm

I typically prefer lightweight/enhanced lightweight barrels, but Sionics also has a mid-weight that is a really good barrel. The are not CHF, but are chrome lined and all of mine have been accurate (around MOA) with good ammo. Also about $100 cheaper than the CHF options. They are starting to accept retail orders again 7/27, Primary arms also sells their barrels

I have an 18" Mountain barrel and no complaints. I planned on a Centurion barrel, but Rainier marked their CHF barrels down too much to resist when they went on clearance.

If I'm not mistaken Mountain is the same barrel as Spikes Tactical CHF barrels. You can get one for around $220-240 if you shop around:

This is the same profile that the midweight Mountain Series used.

Like others have said; the FN barrels that Primary Arms sells should be the same thing.

I'd like to offer another option though. The Rainer Select barrels are a good tube for the money. I just got an 18" Rifle gas, and initial impressions are that its better than my Faxon that its replacing. I think a nitrided stainless will have decent longevity. In reality though; very few shooters wear out their barrels.
