As I stated in another thread, I'm upgrading two Colt 6920 rifles from a DD 7.0 and 12.0 Omega cheese grater rail to M-LOK.

The rifles will be two of my SHTF rifles, so I'm looking for a rail that will be SOLID when installed with no rotation. Also, I'd prefer a svelte rail if possible. That being said, should I be looking at a rail that mounts to a proprietary barrel nut, i.e., BCM or a two-piece rail that attaches to a standard barrel nut like the Centurion Arms C4?

What are the pros/cons of each system?

What rails should I be considering based upon the above criteria?

I'm currently considering BCM MCMR, Centurion Arms C4, DD Omega M-LOK and KAC URX 4. Would love to try a Geissele Super Modular MK16, but I don't think it'll work with these rifles. Anything else?

Are you ditching the FSB in favor of a gas block?

Centurion

Will bolt to your existing bbl nut and Monte’s rails are GTG

Edit: I’d grind down the FSB

Hadn't planned on it.

Then a drop in Centurion would be the easiest option.

I'm just getting back into this stuff after a long hiatus, so forgive my ignorance when I ask; why?

I recently installed a Centurion Arms rail with the FSB cutout on a 14.5 Socom barrel. It is Awesome.

Because it’s pinned and in theory will take a nuclear blast to make it move. It will allow many more rails options vs “cut out only” rails.

So let's flip the coin and say I'm going to remove the FSB. What rail would you suggest now?

There are many good options.

I personally have and like the Centuruon M-LOK handguards and the KAC URX4.
But BCM, Geissele, ALG (had one), CMT (have one unassembled), Aero Precision Atlas, LaRue... All are going to be fine. Part of the question is how much you want to spend and what (if any) unique features you want. Just don’t get trash.

Trilok from solgw or Triarc.

I don't mean to sound arrogant, but the cost is what it is. I have a buy-once, cry-once mentality. Looking to purchase quality the very first time.

No unique features come to mind. Looking for something svelte and feels good in the hand.

Can you explain to me how the integral barrel nut system works on the KAX URX4? I assume this is not a free-floating rail.

I'd also vote for a FSB cut out rail. If Centurion has one in the mount system you like, that is a solid option.

I'd absolutely NEVER cut down a perfectly good forged steel FSB. Not one single rail mount front sight comes close to the durability of the standard sight.

Nope, I absolutely cannot explain. I got it, and sent it off to the barrel maker to put together. It’s more complicated than most.
But, it definitely is free floating and feels “right” in my hand. It is not as narrow as the Centurion free floats, but I’m not so sure it’s a bad thing. There’s a little extra space to mount things and to get your hand further from the barrel as it gets hot.
If you want the current pinnacle, I’d vote for the URX4.

It’s not too bad if you don’t want the gas block pinned.

That rail is high on my list.

I've noticed several rails have M-LOK attachments around the entire rail rather than the standard 3, 6 & 9 o'clock position. Has anyone found they need more attachment area than 3, 6, & 9 o'clock?
