I just received a bcg I bought from an online retailer that was advertised as a Colt bcg. When I got it it was used which was not disclosed in the item description which annoyed be, but whatever, I know new Colt parts are getting to be few and far between. I have a 6920, and a Match Target HBAR, and the marking on the bcg I just got have me scratching my head a little. Don't want to throw anyone under the bus, just want to make sure I got what was advertised and what I paid for. Been researching online the last couple days and can't find similar markings on Colt parts.
Top is the bcg from my 6920 bought new in about 2013, middle is from my match target from 2001-2002, bottom is the one I just bought

Colt has been skimping on markings, so it likely is.

Thank you. The bolt is what had we wondering the most. I'm not an expert, I've probably only taken 6 Colts apart and can't remember any markings like the one I just got.

Ah, I do like posts about Colt stuff. I’m certainly no expert on their markings but the “C” on the new carrier looks really phoned in, even for modern day Colt. To me it looks off, that doesn’t mean that it is a counterfeit, it just looks wrong to me.
The bolt I can’t really say.

I just got a used 14.5 Colt M4 upper (kind of a senseless impulse buy honestly). The upper receiver has a Diemaco marking, which is pretty cool, barrel date is April 2006. And the bolt carrier is properly “C” marked.

However the bolt itself is only marked “MP” instead of “MPC”, with the letters in a different orientation than is typical for Colt bolts. The extractor has a donut insert and is also unmarked on the underside (however I have other known Colt bolts with unmarked extractors also) so I’m pretty sure the bolt is not Colt.

Thanks for the input. I just got a new colt 14.5 socom barrel from Brownells and a new colt "stripped" cage code upper from one of the site sponsors. Trying to stick with all colt parts for no particular reason.

I pulled a couple Colt BCGs out of guns I have and there is certainly a difference in the "C" markings between the new production and old, but none look like the one pictured. That looks like it was done with an electric pencil from Hobby Lobby.

I'm curious which retailer. There was a guy selling bogus Colt parts a few years that went underground after being called out for it and I'm wondering if he's back under another name.

Doesn't really look all that great as has been stated. But Colt is terribly inconsistent, so put it together and run it. But don't buy from that guy again. I agree with 5.56, Hobby Lobby. But still could be a decent BCG. Some people are fkn assholes.

Counter point, I bought and LMT MWS and it came with KAC mags. I couldn't find any markings and doubted the guy, he said No they are KAC mags. Under a bright light and reading glasses, I found KAC on the side and the K A C, didn't line up and looked like it was stamped each letter at a time. But they are KAC mags.

I'm probably just reading into it too much. I have a small Milsurp collection and I like to study the markings/stamps.

bumpskiis PM'd me the name of the place he got it, and I feel confident that it is a real Colt BCG given their reputation.

Looks sketchy to me, but the last supposed Colt BCG I bought 5-6 years ago from Midway had no “C” on it. I contacted Midway & they confirmed none in their latest batch had C 5-6 years ago..

I contacted Colt a couple times & still haven’t heard back yet.

I stick with DD & BCM since then; since I buy directly from them, there’s no maybe.

The "C" on his 6920 carrier looks just as irregular as the one the OP just received. Just that the ends are a little more closed. As for the bolts themselves, if I didn't know beforehand, the "MPC" on the Match Target and 6920 look like shit, while the "MPC" on his recent bolt looks legit. Oh well, beauty in the eye of the beholder, I guess.
