A friend of mine has a NIB one from about 20 years ago. It's silver in color, and has never been fired! Are they good guns, and what would it be worth?

I didn't know S&W made 1911s 20 years ago? Is that a typo?

They didn't make 1911 style guns 20 years ago. IIRC, it was either 2005 or 2006 when they started making the SW1911's.

Perhaps it's a 645 or 4506? The 645 (and the SA 745) was S&W's first .45acp semi-auto pistol. They were good guns.

I don't pretend to be an expert on S&W's, so I thought I'd ask.

20 years ago would have been the S&W 645, double action .45 ACP made famous by Sonny Crockett in Miami Vice....

Sonny carried a Bren Ten.

i believe Sonny carried a couple of different handguns; probably because even the fake, Hollywood BrenTens wouldn't work:D

Are parts hard to find for the S&W?

Nice Bren Doc!!

Actually, he carried both, first few seasons the Bren 10, then they switched to the 645 for the last two seasons....

Anyway....

ARPatriot....parts are probably not going to be all that easy to come across for them. You might try Nurmich Arms.

What parts do you need?

I was thinking of making a trade to get it from him,and was thinking of parts it may need in the future. He doesn't "want" to sell it,i think it's a neat gun but i don't think it would be in my best interest.I don't really need a gun that could become useless if it broke!Any idea's on it's NIB value though???Just curious at this point!

As far as pricing, not off the top of my head. I'd do a search on Gunbroker or Gunsamerica, and maybe check out the S&W Forums to get an idea on current pricing.

Not sure if my memory is right re: the Smith nomenclature, but didn't they make a 1911-ish looking gun some time before getting into the design that they push now?

Yes, the 945's are much more 1911-ish than the 645/4506 pistols are.

On the subject of Sonny Crockett...he also used a Sig P220 in the pilot, then used the Bren 10 for the first two seasons then switched to the 645...which he used until the final season when he switched to the 4506.
