I want to build another 16” upper, preferably with a CHF chrome lined barrel.

Pick one, change the other to reflect the choice.

I am not big on adjustable gas blocks. More moving parts that can fail.

Are you going to be using a suppressor? if so how much 50/50. 100% of the time?

You can have good function for both suppressed use and non-suppressed use if the gas port is the right size. Most commercial barrels would be a little on the large side for a gas port for suppressed use, so figuring out the right size port based on suppressor usage and ammo type is ideal

barrel length and gas system also are needed to figure out appropriate size. Black River Tactical makes gas port inserts or sells a gas block with an insert already installed once you figure that out.

For example... Say you go with a 16'' DD CHF barrel with mid-length gas system. That barrel is ported at .078 i believe. For non-suppressed use that would be fine, you could go slightly smaller if you wanted .076 or so. For mixed suppressor use .074 should run high powered ammo fine and still give good results running suppressed

We need more info.. If you absolutely are going to get an adjustable gas block superlative arms and SLR are the only 2 decent ones IMO

If building a new upper, choose a barrel with a properly configured and ported gas system that doesn't need an adjustable gas block.

Do you make anything for 20” rifle length 308 suppressed?

Sorry, not in a barrel, but the configurable gas tubes can setup the gas drive for suppressed use on an existing barrel.

I refuse to stoop to female 'logic', saying what you feel and only telling (at best) 1/2 of the story, making you verbally drag the next 1/4 out of her, and reserving the final 1/4 of the story so it contradicts any answer(s) you give her.

PRI makes a good one.

I must have female logic. I was trying to keep it simple but still gave too much details.

I want:

16” barrel, chrome lined CHF if possible for carbine courses etc

I will attach either a Knight’s 556 QDC can or a Surefire SOCOM 556 to it and run it suppressed 3/4 of the time. Will be using NATO pressure ammo. Can run on an A5 or carbine length buffer tube.

Does that help? I do not want a stainless barrel RECCE rifle. I already own a 18” SPR with a Noveske switch block. The switch block makes shooting 5.56 Mk262 feel like a .22 with a SOCOM 556 can attached. However it will leak gas and powder, and you will get a mirage from it after 20-30 rounds from the heat. Also needs a tool to switch the block, hard to do with your fingers alone (when it’s cool of course).

I believe IG would say, "You wouldn't need an adjustable gas block if you weren't running a Stormy Daniels sized gas port barrel", only because I've heard him say it.

Just get a properly ported barrel to begin with as previously mentioned.

A properly configured and ported barrel is key.

We get great performance from our barrels running suppressed and unsuppressed with just a buffer swap.

I’ve got a Sentry 7 Ti on my 18” gamer project. Its the second one, the first seized up, and they sent me a new one with no questions, overnight, if I remember right. I offered to pay shipping on the assumption that I did something wrong, he wasn’t into that. It works. I set it to barely run with no can, plus a click. Runs nice with the can.

The regular Sentry 7 is the most recommended AGB in this forum, as far as I can tell.

Anybody try out the Wilson Bulletproof AGB yet?

I've been very happy with a JP also use a couple of Noveske switch blocks.
