View Full Version : Anyone still do 5.45 barrels?
I am on the hunt for a 5.45 upper and cant locate anything.. so now onto barrels. I cant locate those either...except from Moriarti Arms (?) and Anonymous Arms...two of which I have never heard of in this space.
Any info greatly appreciated. Thank you-
I had one a few years back with a Ballistic Advantage barrel on it. It was not chrome lined, but nitrided instead. That led to stuck cartridge cases in the chamber once it got hot. Obviously steel-cased ammo, as there is no brass 5.45 fodder that I know of.
S&W made chrome lined barrels for their M&P 5.45 carbines.

Seemed like a decent barrel when I had a 5.45 upper a few years ago. Never had any issues and it shot decent groups.
I've been trying to find a 545 upper but nothing

Won't argue that but sometimes you have to "dance with the devil" to get what you want. It isn't like BCM, DD or KAC are making any. :dirol:

Get the Adams Arms while you still can. 5.45 ARs kind of died out when ammo got cheap a few years ago, and it hasn't been long enough for that production to recover.
There was only a few manufacturers/sellers anyway, but maybe this list will help you in your internet searches:
Smith & Wesson
Spike's Tactical
Ballistic Advantage
Adams Arms
Model 1 Sales
Voodoo Innovations
M&A Parts
Faxon Firearms
I had a LWRCI factory built upper and it gave me issues. I sold it. Also had the PWS enhanced buffer to eliminate bolt bounce. Tried loading magazines, to 20rd capacity. The 30rd purposely built 5.45 mags did not help either. I believe I only used the Monarch commercial product. Never tried it with the 7n6.

I have a Nitrided barrel 5.45. Runs flawless, never get stuck cases and that is with steel case ammo.
As for the Brass, I have Brass for 5.45x39 ,dies, and bullets ( hornady and surplus).
Hornady Black 5.45 is now Brass.
Hornady is producing brass, dies, and Vmax bullets
I recently purchased one of the Model1Sales barrels. It looks decent to me. If there's anything you want to see a picture of, let me know. I have not built the rifle yet because I'm waiting on an Osprey Defense piston system that I ordered from Optics Planet on March 9th. The expected receipt date keeps on getting pushed back. Now it's October 19th. I could go DI, but having a piston system just seems right for this build. The cool thing about the build is that I managed to get a receiver set with the lower marked 5.45x39.

But that's not 5.45x39. :(
Well I guess there is always this option.
