Have $600.00 saved up for a scope for my AR10 .308 and can't make up my mind between a Vortex, Leupold or a Primary Arms low power variable scope.Whats the best buy in that range with lighted cross hairs or dot ? Fixed income rules out Big Buck glass and the range around here is 250 to 300 yds.

Vortex Viper 1-6x.

I was just looking at the Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 MOA, seems to fit the money but can't find out how long a battery last?

If you leave it on all the time, weeks. If you turn it off between uses, a long time. 2032s don’t have a lot of capacity.

I have a Viper 1-6 Gen II on one of my AR10s. I am very happy with it.

Another vote for the PST 1-6x in that price range. There are good Leupolds but none I recommend in that price range. And would definitely take the PST over a PA.

Natchez has the Burris XTRII 1-5x for $450, a really great deal that leaves you money for a good mount. Just another option - the PST is slightly nicer overall but the difference isn't huge. I own both.

You could also find a Steiner P4xi 1-4x in that price range but, again, I'd go with the PST.

Depends on if you might be happy with a 1-4x.
A guy on a subreddit has a a SWFA 1-4x listed for $260 shipped. I am (I think) going to pass on it, but might meet your needs on a fun gun.

Might want to take a look at the deal EuroOptic is offering on the Bushnell Elite Tactical Pro II 1-6.5. List was $1400, now reduced to $599. Reason for discount is that the scope has been discontinued, but all reviews indicate a high quality scope, at a very nice price. https://www.eurooptic.com/Bushnell-Elite-Tactical-1-65x24-Pro-SMRS-FDE-Illuminated-Riflescope-w-Throw-Leve.aspx

Looking at a review by someone who also has a PST 1-6 the Bushnell seems to be "Better" also hear it's priced more accordingly now than its over $1k price tag it was originally. If I didn't already have a bunch of glass I personally would pick one up and try it.

Been just sitting here surfing scopes deals and spent a little time looking at the list of all choices and specs. I know it would be a stretch but little pro/con from real users would be kinda nice in the reviews but then you would have to invoke the "Fan Boy Discount" what ever that is? Looks like the Elite it a decent deal and I already have a bunch of lower class Elites in the rack and they have worked out just fine here in Mich and the Dog towns out west. Will call Vortex and Bushnell in the mourning and see whats up with the Viper Gen 2 and the Tac Pro 2, Midway is not taking orders on them any longer and not real sure where to look for best deal? Keep your thoughts coming, I really do appreciate your input and the use of your hard earned money!

There were some SWFA 1-6HD’s in Sample List for under $600. You may want to check there.

How bad do you need 1X? I think the 2-10 model in the PST line makes a little more sense on a .308 gun, overall.

2 power not a bad plan at all!

Anyone know how big the red dot in the Bushnell Elite Tac Pro is?

Disciple
09-14-20, 14:19
It is shown as 1.25 MOA at 6.5X. I believe that will actually subtend 8.125 MOA of your visual field, rather than the target plane. Being SFP it will be the same apparent size at all magnification levels.

Primary Arms 1-8 with the ACSS. Pretty decent glass, pretty decent illumination, pretty rugged, plenty of magnification, great price, best reticle hands down. Very simple, and intuitive, yet effective.

How does the members feel about Primary Arms Scopes? Bought a GLx2x prism a couple of months ago and just got around to trying it out and the small aiming center at 100yds is a bit small. With all the OFS pickings are a little slim and some of the lesser known brands may be a crap shoot. U.S scopes and I believe Athlon (spelling) are 2 that I might have to check and not real sure what to look at next. I got too believe Vortex has discontinued the Viper PST Gen 2 Moa?

PA isnt bad for the price. I would also look at the Swampfox Arrowhead. They have a 1-6, 1-8, and 1-10. Darklordofoptics posted a favorable review on it and there is a long thread on TOS with good feedback

Dylta Striker and Meopta Optika 6 should also be looked at

For my money: Nikon.

They're getting out of the riflescope business, so there were lots of great "close-out" deals out there. (I bought from Europtic.)

Called Vortex about a Viper 1x6.5 PST Gen 2 and was told 4 months maybe a pinch sooner

Came to cast my vote for the Viper as well... Vortex is just one heck of a company. I'm also pretty fond of their Razor HDs, but those are way out of price range.

That sucks, I was considering picking up another. Right now I have a PST G2 1-6x24 MOA on my SBR'ed SCAR 17.

On my 308 AR-10 I had a NF 2.5-10x42 but just put a Trijicon Credo 2.5-15x42 that I got for $675 on sale. Only one range session with it but I really like it so far. I've also used the PST 1-6 on the AR and it worked fine; really just depends on what you want to so with the rifle.

If this review is accurate. The answer is PST Gen 2 1x6.

Hard to beat Vortex in that price range, although I'd be temped to try a Primary Arms offering.

Just wanted to say EuroOptic ships fast and have not disappointed me. Worth a quick check to compare prices sometimes.

Hard to beat Vortex in that price range, although I'd be temped to try a Primary Arms offering.I have tried every line in primary arms and pretty much the same in vortex.

Imho the razorii beats out their platinum line and the pstii line beats out their gold line. When comparing their silver line to say vortex strike eagle line it gets a little more muddy. I would take a pa 1-6 over the strike eagle, but that is mostly the reticle. But in higher magnification I would probably lean strike eagle.
