Haven’t seen this posted as a movie recommendation or review. IMDB link here (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1598778/).

This film was released in 2011 and started to have a resurgence on streaming platforms back around May, however I only just watched it for the first time. If you’re into conspiracy you may think this was ‘predictive programming’ given all the correlations to our 2020 situation (e.g. from the film zoonotic transmission from bats, quarantine, ‘The CDC Lies’ flyers being distributed by the fringe blogger, et cetera).
I watched the film as something to do on a Saturday night and it was well done, A list actors, and an interesting storyline. A global pandemic erupts and the CDC’s heros trace it to China and bats, a race for a vaccine is on, and a man tries desperately to save his daughter from quarantine boredom. Maybe wasn’t an Oscar contender, but I found it to be a good film overall. I’d give it four out of five N95 masks. 😷 😷 😷 😷

I actually enjoyed this movie quite a bit at the time. The character - played by Jude Law IIRC - who was peddling the “miracle cure” was an interesting side plot as well.

Plus I always thought the film had kind of a cool, eerie soundtrack.

Wasn't this based on the book "The Hot Zone?", great book, worth a read.
And then you figure out it was nonfiction.

The Hot Zone is an excellent book; it's a very easy read. I read it multiple times when I was about 11 years old. Some of the information is a bit outdated and melodramatic; Ebola is not as contagious as it's made to sound in the book, nor does it routinely cause victims to spew blood like a fire hydrant (though that's not completely unheard of). But that said, it was written based on what was believed at the time and is very interesting.

Thanks for the tip on the book, I found a copy on eBay.

I was...26, it was required text for a CBRNE class... great book.

It was better than "Outbreak" (1995)

Calling a pandemic movie predictive programming is like calling a movie about war in the middle east predictive programming. Its not like we dont know where the reservoir for these virus are, bat->pig->human, bird->pig->human, monkey->human.

Did you watch it?

The movie was based, in large part, on the real life SARS-COV1 experience.
Checks all the boxes...
[X] Chinese origin
[X] Zoonotic
[X] Feckless CDC response

CoVID-19 is simply SARS-COV2. Literally the second go-round, slightly different pathogen. Cite - https://www.who.int/news-room/commentaries/detail/transmission-of-sars-cov-2-implications-for-infection-prevention-precautions

If you think this movie is especially predictive, you need to refocus your internet time. Read about the Nigerian official who almost made Ebola a pandemic - https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-perspective/2014/09/quarantine-escapee-sparked-more-ebola-nigeria

Are you referring to the TV show (Dead Zone) or the entirety unrelated (Contagion) movie?

I didn’t realize this would spark a debate about PP. But hey it’s 2020 so why not.

Predictive Programming

by Dahria Beaver

Predictive Programming is theory that the government or other higher-ups are using fictional movies or books as a mass mind control tool to make the population more accepting of planned future events. This was first described and proposed by researcher Alan Watt who defines Predictive programming as “Predictive programming is a subtle form of psychological conditioning provided by the media to acquaint the public with planned societal changes to be implemented by our leaders. If and when these changes are put through, the public will already be familiarized with them and will accept them as natural progressions, thus lessening possible public resistance and commotion.” (Wood) Then it was popularized by Alex Jones and David Icke. The most notable cases of predictive programing are the examples found in the Simpsons, The Dark Night Rises, The Hunger Games, and the oldest being from Futility. Information can be found on blog posts and many conspiracy theorists have either made videos on it or have spoken on the subject.

What made it even better was the complete coping that followed because it was 1. A work of fiction and not from an authoritative entity, 2. He didn’t get the details about the virus 100% right (ie fatality rate), and 3. He said it came from a lab outside Wuhan but of course “authority figures” today have labeled that a conspiracy theory because you can’t have the people engaging in speculation.

Anyways Contagion and Hot Zone were good.

That’s a good one too.
Let’s not forget the Illuminati card game had CDC and Epidemic cards.

“Media: Keep the adult public attention diverted away from the real social issues, and captivated by matters of no real importance.
Schools: Keep the young public ignorant of real mathematics, real economics, real law, and REAL HISTORY [WC emphasis].
Entertainment: Keep the public entertainment below a sixth-grade level.
Work: Keep the public busy, busy, busy, with no time to think; back on the farm with the other animals.”
