Finally decided to order a copy of this book after hearing a lot of positive comments on it. My understanding is that it was originally published in 1987 and updated in 1992. Was this before the flattop receiver made it's appearance?

Colt first released the flattop in full production during 1992/1993 on the R6700.

There were other experimental versions before this date.

I have it at home (I'm at work now) but I don't believe the flattop is in the first book. To be sure it is in Bartocci's, just not Blake Stevens' book.

I think there is a passing mention that a flattop upper was in the works.

While there is some overlap, Black Rifle II is the second volume of the two book series. Both are worth having.
