I take it that this is the ACOG replacement?:

"NEWINGTON, N.H., (November 9, 2020) – SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce the TANGO6T has been selected by the U.S. Department of Defense for the Direct View Optic (DVO) in response to a solicitation to enhance squad performance with a variable powered riflescope. Unlike older generation non-magnified or fixed-magnification optics, the TANGO6T is a 1-6X variable-magnification riflescope that enables the soldier to engage both close-quarter targets and targets at extended ranges."

Is that different than this?

Looks like this latest announcement is just detailing what model was selected. Not sure why that wasn't included originally. SIG looks to be on a roll, anyway.

Well, Sig does love a celebratory press-release... Per the NGSW, staying in the hunt or making it to the next level warrants a party. Sig: Not losing = WINNING!

I'm sure if anyone can fulfill container-loads of these things, it will be Sig.

In typical military kit fashion, some guys will love them simply because it's selected/issued. Some guys will hate them simply because its what is selected/issued. The pipe-hitters will be able to work with it (and rest easy knowing there's support to get all the new ones they need...per the Eotech days). And guys who could destroy and anvil and don't to gangsta stuff will be the first to lament on the internet that it's crap.

...A song as old as time.

Per the rest of us spending our own cash, nothing to see here. NF, S&B, Kahles, Vortex and some other not-Sig still rule the roost of that market.

Sig wins again. Big surprise! Sig is not in a roll, someone hooked them up, aka they rubbed the right feet. It's unfortunate that or solders have to pay in the field with inferior equipment because the gov just doesn't care.

I went ahead and closed that older thread so the discussion can continue here.

Somebody at Sig has some serious skills and some worn out knee pads.

Just imagine if they bid on the next M-4 contract...

How is OIG or whomever not looking into any of this?

Now SIG can put an "In Use By The US Military" sticker on their Tango6T boxes.

Sig may just be really good at reading the solicitation and sticking to it. The “best” thing doesn’t always win, the thing that most closely matches the solicitation does. Customers often have a hard time describing what makes something quality vs not. We all know a Snap On wrench is better than a Harbor Freight version but people have a hard time using legal terms that differentiate between the two. This is how KDH won the plate carrier contract over the other people. Their garbage met the solicitation while the others were made to be good. If the terms of the solicitation don’t equal a good product then companies have to protest prior to submitting bids. Once that thing closes, you are locked in to whatever is in there.

I'm sure your mostly right, as I'm sure solicitations biggest determining factor is what price can we get this at. It didn't discount the fact that sig has makes junk that they copy pasted and under cut.

Maybe somebody wrote the specification so that only SIG could meet requirements (for whatever reason).

Slater,

If that was the case, the other companies should have protested the solicitation. If you don’t complain about something at the time, you can’t bring it up later.

Wouldn't be the first time that happened.
