I run the Safariland 6004 for my duty tac pistol.

I was looking at the Blackwater Universal Holster for secondary/personal applications - including secondary bug-out set-ups for family/friends - and a general purpose holster. Does anyone have any experience with this holster?

I realize as a "universal" it will have it's limitations, but I was wondering what the practicality of this holster really is before spending the money to try.

Thanks for honest inputs - I've got no dog in this fight.

Thank in advance!

Here are some pics and a short write-up on it that I did on another board.

The fact that you can (supposedly) put a weapon with a light on it is very appealing. I just recently got an M3 for my Glock, so I've not tried it yet.

Overall, it's OK. I like the fact it's ambidextrous and multi-weapon capable. The Hypalon backing is easier to thread than the standard webbing. Seems like tough stuff, but I have no sense on how durable it really is...but they make Zodiac boats out of the stuff, don't they?

What I don't like, and I am unsure there's a way around it given what it does, is the bulk. It's a thick holster, given the holster securing straps. It mounts solidly and has a sight-track in it. Standard thumbreak retention. Without digging through the box again, I can't recall if it comes with a jump strap.

For about $60.00, it's not a bad holster...it's made fairly well, multiweapon/light capable, ambidextrous and no proprietary locks to get dirty or jammed up.

Tim,

Can you get a firing grip on the pistol with the pistol in the holster and the thumb snap secured? What combinations have you tried in it? What range of pistols do you think it can accomodate, eg. Glock 19 with no light to a USP 45 with a light?

Yes, you can get a firing grip.

As for number / type of weapons, I can't say. At the time all I had was my Glock 19 (I sold a bunch of stuff) and didn't have a weapon light.

However in tearing it apart and such, the internal straps that help retain/hold/position the weapon are adjustable. Also, the company says it will fit a variety of gun both with and without lights.

Sorry, that's the best I got for you.
