I was looking at a Rainier Arms 16in 1:7 Mountain Series and I noticed the profile is something called
“SDM” anyone know exactly what this SDM profile is? Is it a heavy profile? Another Govt/M4 profile? Or is it something like Faxon’s Hanson cut?

SDM is generally heavy (1'') under the hand guard and tappers towards the muzzle. They usually have fluting to reduce weight. That barrel is about 32 oz so def not a "light weight" barrel but not crazy heavy. A standard m4 profile barrel is about 28oz so this would be mid weight IMO. I like the profile from the pictures, it is beefy where the barrel get hottest and slimmer up front. The fluting helps cut some weight

Rainier must have recently redone the mountain series as they used to be CHF chrome lined barrels and these are 4150 CMV (not CHF)with nitride. I will say that Rainier makes top notch barrels and i am sure it will be a shooter if this is the type of barrel you want
