I got this divider for MOS FS tube cummerbund on my Velocity Systems Scarab. I was never a Boy Scout or a sailor, so I don't know much about knots. What kind of knot is this (https://mostactical.com/collections/spav-component/products/cummerbund-center-divider)? I want to make sure I secure the cummerbund properly to the bungee. Thanks!

Looks like a figure of eight knot to me.

Figure 8

The figure eight-style loops are just loops of shock cord being laced through the loops of the two separate panels - much like lacing up your shoes, just upside down visually. The knot at the end is a simple overhand knot using the tail ends of the cord, securing them.

(And yes, I LOL’d with irony at the fact that my name is “Boy Scout” and I am in fact answering a question about knot-tying. FWIW, I was heavily involved in Scouting as a kid and as leadership with my son the last few years, but completely exited and told them to pound sand when they backed BLM. Guess I need to change my callsign...)

Figure 8, tied with both pieces of elastic parallel as per the above:

Common overhand knot tied using two bitter ends rather than one

Yeah I can’t tell if it’s an over hand or figure 8.

Definitely a figure eight. Truth be told, you would probably be okay with a simple overhand knot, but the way that's loaded it could hypothetically roll itself out, which is far less likely with the figure eight. A water knot would actually be the correct choice for that load type though.

That's just a simple overhand, with 2 lines together in on it. Nothing special.

A flat figure eight bend is actually more prone to roll out than a flat overhand bend.

Interesting. In any case, a water knot would get the job done without a doubt.
