View Full Version : Daniel Defense Barrel Nuts/Bolt-Up Plates

Anyone happen to know if all current Daniel Defense rails use the same barrel nut and bolt-up backer plate things?

I ask 'cause I've currently got an upper with a RIS II. I like the RIS II well enough, but with a Razor HD Gen II replacing my old Eotech, we're into "too heavy for my wife to comfortably run" territory, and I wouldn't mind a weight reduction myself, so I was thinking of swapping out to MLOK rails. Trouble is, the RIS II is riding on a 14.5" barrel with a pinned and welded Surefire 4-prong that I'd very much like to not destroy, so I was hoping it'd be possible to just swap out the RIS II and replace it with one of DD's MLOK rails without needing to change the barrel nut and the bolt-up plate. And the gas block, for that matter.

Any chance that's the case, or am I going to have to bug my gunsmith?

RIS II is different than the rest.

RIS II has it's own bolt-up plate w/6 screws, most of the rest use a common bolt-up plate w/4 screws.

You can purchase the bolt-up kits separately but I'm not sure that'll solve your problem.

Nope, sure won't.

Thanks for the information though.

It’s not that difficult to unpin a muzzle device.

It’s real easy with a mill or drill press, and not terrible with a file.

Simple solution, leave it as is and call it "his", pick up a new LW 16" call it "hers".
