Am home visiting my mom and she has an old cardboard box of 9mm mannlicher 280gr metal patched ammo. I remember that a friend of my parents found it in a cabin in Alaska back in the 70s or 80s. Just thought I’d share because it is always interested me and brings thoughts of a time gone by. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210211/92461003ac342bd16c81c5b36cca04e9.jpg

The 9x57 and 9x62 are excellent medium bore cartridges, proven in the game fields of the world over. Comparable to our own .35 Whelen and enough for anything walking North America.

Wow, 9mm Mauser (actually 7.92x57), somewhere someone had a really nice rifle for that round.

I remember finding something like a dozen boxes of like new original 11mm mauser on stripper clips in their original packaging at a gun store a few years ago. Cool stuff all from before turn off the century.

Someone had to have a rifle they were really proud of to go along with these. Makes me wonder if they left the cabin one day and met the end of their line. One wouldn’t expect for ammo to be left and forgotten like that. Especially in an area that it probably wasn’t easy to get it.

Yes, and this is what happens when you try and shove too much info into finite brain space. Meant to say almost identical to 8mm Mauser. It's one of those oddball chamberings but if you read Mauser Sporting Rifles (Collector Grade Armory) you learn to lust after this stuff even though it's usually not very practical in this day and age.

If ever I become a billionaire, I swear I will buy a Holland and Holland before getting a Ferrari. Double rifles are the stuff of legend and they made guns like Enzo made cars.

I've got an 11mm aka .43 Mauser
(11.15x60R IIRC) Mauser rifle. 🙂

Got some new ammo for it. Most I've ever paid for ammo. $75/20. Now over $105 a box last I checked. I'd reload it if I fired it much.

I agree with this completely! A .375 H&H rifle has been one of those dream items for me since being a young boy. I think I would even go a shot far as to get a coach gun in 20 and 12 gauges from them as well to round out my desires.

I think it comes from reading about such things, probably in the works of Kipling.

I had an opportunity to pick up a Husqvarna in this caliber a few years ago. I passed wanting the extra velocity of the 9.3x62 Mauser. Still, a great round with enormous potential akin to the .358 Winchester.

I believe Beretta bought H&H recently .

Several years ago I was the executor on an estate that included many very fine African Game rifles from the Guilded Age of Safari Hunting.... Several Holland and Hollands, Rigbys, Berettas, Heyms......

There was a Heym .700 Nitro Express that I rather coveted....
