Yaphet Kotto, the charismatic actor who faced off with James Bond, a deadly alien and devious criminals in his long career, has died at age 81.
Kotto's death was announced by his wife, Tessie Sinahon, in a Facebook post, saying she was sad and in shock after losing her husband of 24 years. Kotto died in the Philippines, she added.

What an actor, he will be missed.

One of my favorite comeback lines from all Bond films

Live and Let Die was one of my favorite Bond films, and for one of several reasons - actor Clifton James as Sheriff J.W. Pepper. His reference to a Swamp full of Black Russians always brings a smile to my face.

Leave it to you to come up with the awesome obscure movie reference. They finally got that out on DVD a few years back.

I didn't know his name till now, but he was in The Running Man too.

Likely saw him in several tv westerns too when he was a young man.

Just gotta say he'd have probably been even more famous if his parents didn't hang a name like Yaphet on him. He was born in New York fer gods sake. I understand that parents had recently converted to Judaisms and the name means "handsome" but it's a lot for others to trip over and just ignore as you try and make your way through life.

I get that he probably wanted to show his appreciation to his parents by not adopting a stage name, but if ever anyone needed a stage name it might have been him. I mean more people recognize the name Dolemite.

Sad news, he was definitely a great actor, very talented. He could play criminal or cop equally convincing. R.I.P.

Bummer!

He was GREAT in Homicide: Life On The Street. If you missed that series...check it out! One of the better cop shows...my favorite and Mr. Kotto was brilliant in it!

I worked with his son at a large PD in CA. Great guy, although he said his relationship was rocky with his dad. Haven't spoken to him since I retired, hope they were able to patch things up.
