I couldn't find the original thread, but I saw somewhere on here where someone cut their a2 front sight down into a low profile to be able to use it on a longer free float handguard. My question is I was thinking about machining one myself. Would these be any different then the aftermarket one that were made for this set-up? also would machining the original sight down to fit in a free float guard make it weaker do to the original design of the a2 sight versus a aftermarket in which the few I have seen, seem to be alittle more beefy. I'm guessing for strengh or just the way they are made. For me it seems simpler to use the mounting style the a2 has then to try and drill a couple divots into the barrel and use the set screws, or are either set-up just as good as the other?

Excellent, Thank You very much for the info and Threads, it answers my question on the shaving and finishing part, but one thing I was wondering, if you don't want to use the original FSB to shave and just purchased a used one from someone else would the pins and gas port still line up or is it better to just use the original of the barrel? I was hopeing to be able to save mine just in case, I want to use it again as a normal FSB, or I end up selling the barrel.
