View Full Version : LMT 308 receiver extension and A5 buffer
Is anyone running this setup? I picked up an LMT 308 receiver extension after reading that it was gtg with the A5 buffer setup. But there is a slight difference in length between the LMT and VLTOR RE-A5 tube. Will this cause any functioning issues?

It should not cause any issues.
Always verify proper bolt catch over travel of ~1/4".
That’s what I used, worked fine.

This, and press the BCG into the installed receiver extension to verify there's about 1/8" between the lower receiver and the rear of the gas key. Sort of the same check, but nice to have to points of reference.

I used this combo before. I didn’t measure anything, but it seemed to function just fine.
The important measurement is the inside depth, not the outside length.

Yeah, the difference internal length is the same as the external.

That was not the case from the tubes I had. Externally was shorter and internally was shorter as well.
In a 5.56 build, when drawn all the way to the rear the travel for the BCG was significantly less. Could it run?...yes. Did it function the same as a BCM/Vltor buffer tube?...no.

That’s what I meant, I just phrased it poorly. The internal length on the LMT is shorter by about the same amount as it is externally.

That might have been me...thought I read it as the internal is the same as the non-LMT tube.
I have a big, long-winded post about it on P&S or lightfighter I think.
Internal was 1/8" short; external was 1/16" +/- IIRC

This is an accurate statement. An easy fix is to trim the buffer bumper if you want to run the LMT RE. Incidentally, the SR-25 RE is the same length as the LMT.

Yeah...I don't clip/trim/mod/"hack" anything in an operating system to "get it to run".
You can run it with more variances than you show. I think there is a 7 position tube and a 5 position tube, both work fine with A5 systems
