and if so, what are the implications of this?

I don't recall seeing screws like this before.. at least not since I started paying attention to such things

Likely a DPMS.

Here's what some Diemacos (AR6520) look like:

Where does DPMS get their BCGs? Any consistency?

I went through my 164 emails from parts I've ordered in the last 6 months, to see where this came from and how much I paid for- It's obviously WELL used, and I don't generally (ever) buy used internal parts.

It was ordered new, but it's definately not new, and I paid $120 for it. Must have been when LMT and BCM went perpetually out-of-stock.

I sent an email to the shop, explaining the significant wear on all parts, mass globs of crud carbon buildup, worn out brownish blue extractor insert, worn out gas rings, a firing-pin retention pin that looks like it's been getting used as a punch repetitively, worn lugs on the bolt, shiny ramp from hundreds of hammer engagements.... and asked for a replacement or refund. I'll post the name of the dealer once there's a final verdict.

Hill Top Gun Shop in Dover replied me and apologized. Said send it back, and they'll refund me plus shipping.

Wow! That's some pretty weak key staking on the DPMS. The side shot of the key really illustrates it.

It's good that they mark their stuff with the "D" so it can be avoided.

Yup. Looks like every other DPMS carrier I've seen.

Also looks like the same soft screws.

I've never seen one. (it looks like they were affraid to hurt the metal) My brother in law bought a dpms carbean that he thinks is the shit. I guess it has run good for him so far.

I still have that write up you did a year or so back on some training you had. One of the shooters said "there's 4 things wrong with my carbine... D, P, M, & S." or something along those lines. There was good info in that AAR.

Correction- I have seen a well staked DPMS carrier. It was in one of their SS 16" bull barrel models. I was astonished.
