A properly maintained weapon is a reliable weapon. How many of you use a coated rod and bore guide (either breech or muzzle) during care of the M4?
Please vote in the poll.

Ditto... Being a chrome lined bore, the need to keep it spotless is a waste of time on a carbine..
More barrels are shot out due to over cleaning then by shooting them
I don't own bore guides..
Now the chamber is another story...

I use a bore guide (a JP one) a coated rod (Dewey) on all my ARs at least twice a year with Sweets 7.62 followed by a 50-50 mix of Kroil and Shooters Choice. It gets them damn clean. A friend gave me the tip on the 50-50 thing. I use the Brownells 'beefy' bronze brushes, they have female thread and go right onto the Dewey rods w/o an adapter.
I use a Dewey stainless steel one piece rod, Hoppes Powder Solvent and Barrett Bore Cleaner. The Barrett stuff impressed the hell out of me when I saw how blue/green the patch was. It really seemed to do its' job.
I have also been known to abuse my rifles with a standard G.I cleaning kit as well.
I use one of the pull-through cables(which is coated)

What do you do to protect the chamber/throat?
I don't like coated rods because they accumulate grit and will abrade your bore. Instead I use a carbon fiber rod available through Midway.
I use a bore-snake or an Otis kit on chrome lined barrels, I'm not to anal with them.
I usually only use Shooters Choice Solvent.

Bore guide and a Dewey rod.Whether you use a coated rod or not, always wipe the rod off with a clean dry patch/cloth to remove any grit, grime.
I use a good chamber brush.. the barrel i just use a bore-snake.
I've used a Dewey rod and a bore guide on the M1A for years. I'm making due with the kit that came with my Colt for now while I await the arrival of my Dewey pull through coated cable.
I use a Dewey Bore Guide and a Dewey Coated Rod. Works great for me.
Chamber brush and a Bore Snake. Once in a blue moon a coated rod and Sweets then follow up with Kroil. gotm4, why the mix, is the kroil to light on its own? Thanks.

Brass bore rod or bore snake if it gets really gunky.
I use a M4 Otis cleaning kit, and clean the chamber with a issue chamber brush and the old school steel rods. CLP is the only chemical I use, from a white gallon jug, not the breakfree stuff.
Bore snake, GP brush, and bore brush for me....

I just use those pull through cleaning kits that come with the guns.
Edit: and sometimes the bore snake.
Over-cleaning can wear out a barrel in no time. No offense here guys, but the USMC don't shoot their barrels out, it's their weapon cleaning protocols that wear them out!
Dewey and no bore guide. I just pull bigger patches through. This eliminates any rod bending and contacting the rifling... which I don't think is a bid deal anyway.

I've got the Dewey's and the guides, but always use the Otis system instead.
