Wonder if this will be a sales success for FN?

Interesting, looks like reduced weight is one of the main selling points. I do like the mlok monolithic design. Wonder how the reduced weight will affect recoil, especially in the 7.62 version.

It's interesting to see where the M240 has progressed.
I've worked on M60's M219's and M240's. I will take the 240 every time and without hesitation.
I would like to see this further explored and tested.

Its not a replacment for the 240, the evolys doesnt have a quick change barrel so it will never be a replacement for a sustained fire/support by fire MG.

My understanding is that is a possible replacement for the 249 SAW.

In 5.56 or 7.62?

Looks ok, but I don't understand belt feds without a QD barrel.

And if we were gonna replace 240/249s with anything I'd look hard at the KAC products.

It could be either. I haven't read one way or the other. 5.56 seems logical but a lightweight SAW in 7.62 would give a small squad decent "punch".

I understand all of that, but I look at that and that looks an awful lot like a 240. New and improved for sure, but still a 240.

Mk48 would like a word.

I'm gonna guess that these (like the 60E4/Mk43 and Mk46/48) aren't going to be meant to replace the general purpose MG. These are likely gonna be used by pointy type operators where portability is more important than durability and the amount of ammunition carried makes barrel changing irrelevant. If the 240B is the Zippo, this is the Bic.

This is inaccurate.
Everything from application to purpose is different than a 240.
Way more similar to an HK G21.

Mk48 would like a word.

HAH!
Yup.

Is that a purpose-designed bipod or an off-the-shelf item?

Whatever happened to the Mk46/48s?

I also don't understand why we didn't just buy Negev's instead of 249s back in ye olden days, given the weight/other issues related to the SAW...

Also, what is with the fat-ass/tall receivers for these new MGs I'm seeing? Sig's was the same way...

Or potentially the Ultimax 100. Though I seem to recall seeing something (maybe even on here) that the Ultimax wasn't very user friendly.

Don't know for certain.

Was just gonna nominate the Ultimax. Never shot one but it's a Sullivan design and if adopted and supported and issues could have been worked out and resulted in a Ultimax 100A1. But the Knights evolution of the basic design is more impressive.

AFAIK Teams, Rangers, and such are still rocking them.

I would highly suggest rereading Jack's post since he might know alittle something about next gen MG requirements.

There's a reason why only Singapore uses the Ultimax, or why buying skeletonized rechambered Minimi's that only last 50,000 rounds is terrible idea since none of these existing MGs can fit the requirement.

Just look at the name, its called the Evolys not the Revolys. FN is a day late and a dollar short, this is something they should have done 10 years ago and KAC already filled the requirement with something better.

BTW we arent going to be adopting s*it unless we know what the next gen ammo is going to look like.
