View Full Version : Looking for AR case

I’m doing more traveling and would like to take an AR with me for those opportunities I may have to shoot farm pests or to just have a chance to run drills.

I’d like a soft case and for it to be more discreet, large enough to hold an MK18 upper and a 14.5” or 16” upper. Bonus points if mags and maybe a handgun will also fit. American made, quality zippers, and durability are also a big plus.

I’ve looked at several but nothing stands out. I’ve worn our several of the store brand cheap AR cases.

Any suggestions and photos would be appreciated.

Texas-made and tough, with INTERNAL mag pouches - a.k.a. "discreet."

I had them make me my Bren 805 case. WORTH the money, which isn't that exorbitant.

Great suggestion. That looks almost exactly what I had in mind. I’m bookmarking this and just may order one.

SERT cases. I especially like the ones sized to fit snuggly into Pelican cases

I have a couple of Voodoo Tactical cases. Mine hold two guns and have one large and three small pouches. Were reasonable priced. Seems there are a lot of decent bags, good luck.

This will not likely be a popular response but this case has served me well. It is a scabbard not a case but in terms of transport and protection it has served me for both 16 inch carbines and my 11.5 pistol build...

The scabbard itself is a Red Rock molle rifle scabbard. I have 2 double mag holders down one side and I have an admin pouch with markers, lube, an m4 cleaning tool, and notebook on the other side. The double mag pouches are the Condor make and model.

I can carry my firearm (with lpvo, prism scope, or MRO), along with as many as 8 30 round pmags if I want. The scabbard itself is able to be lengthened or shortened based on the profile of the carried firearm. The firearm itself is firmly secured within the scabbard via both velcro and a clip.

It is a complete chi-com solution. But it did not break the bank and does what I need it to.

I’m looking for a bit more discreet. Something that doesn’t scream “tactical” or “gun” when I pull it out of the vehicle.

Does anybody have experience with the Tuff Products offering?

Just got one of these. They legitimately look like a keyboard bag on the outside. There's absolutely nothing even remotely tactical looking about them. They just look like some generic keyboard bag you would get at a music shop with a lower end keyboard in one of those starter packages.

ETA: OP, if you think that will float your boat I can take some pics of mine to give you a better idea how much they hold.

I’d love to see more of it than on the page. That is exactly what I have in mind. I’ve actually used guitar cases in the past but they just aren’t big enough.

I have had good luck with Bull Dog cases. I have one that fits a 16" upper. It has a padded divider so no straps. It is even blue for stealth. I'll put up some pictures later. I transport magazines in a soft cooler. The ones that hold a six pack will easily fit 6-8 loaded mags.

This, I have the same case, I put a Harley Davidson patch on it as camo.

Hopefully that gives you some idea of scale. It also has a nice little pocket for paper targets in the lid. Also nice that you can use a luggage lock on it, because that technically meets the legal requirement for locking up NFA items, I believe.

This holds my 11.3" pistol perfectly with 5-6 mags on the other side. I've also broken down a 16" and in that config it has 2 internal mag pockets. Zippers are holding up well after 5 years and it looks not tactical at all.

Appreciate the additional ideas guys. Not too many slick purpose built bags to choose from but I like what I'm seeing already.

I like the Savior backpack but they are out of stock right now. They offer various sizes as well. This is a 34” but the have a 30” and 36” as well I believe.

Ive had one of their longer bags for awhile now. COPIOUS pockets. Like almost too many. Youll lose stuff if not careful. :)
The case is high quality. Fits two 20" AR's with a ton of gear. I can easily recommend.
ONE & ONLY fault- Made in China. Didnt know it until I ordered.
Ive got the Grey, again..I like mine a lot.

+1 for the Bulldog case. I use that case to transport my 16" AR and even my Mini 14 (depending upon the location and the laws) with no problems. I took a sharpie and wrote BCUSD - BAND (Beach Cities Unified School District, my local school district) on the outside and I can't tell you how many times people have asked what instrument I play. It has a couple of internal pockets for magazine as well.

So far mine has held up well.
