I think they’re 4130 and shot peened but not for certain. I’d appreciate confirmation if anyone can provide it. Thanks in advance!

Close, but not quite.

AISI 4140 or AISI 4340

Shot peening is only for a specific area.

Here's a link to some info that "lysander" and others provided in a thread back in 2017.

Does the TDP specify how they are to be manufactured?

Here is a description as an example:

Billet Machined Extractor
Machined from solid 4140 bar stock, heat treated and shot peened
Phosphate coated for reliable extraction

In this case, the drawing specifies cold drawn steel, so it should be carved from cold drawn bar stock.

Sometimes drawing get a bit more specific and call out the ASTM standard for the steel...

Thanks guys. I’ll check out that thread as well. I’ve seen Chad at SOTAR using what I think is an Arsenal Extractor gauge. Any idea where that might be had? I’ve done some looking but haven’t been deep in the rabbit hole on it. I guess if I’m asking I’m already there but…

LOL.

THANKS FOR EVERYTHING!

There are a number of gauges used during manufacture.

One that checks the overall width and centrality of the fin.
One that checks the diameter of the pin hole.
One that checks the concentricity of the two pin holes.
One that checks the pin hole in relation to the "hump."
One that checks the relation of the pin hole to the extractor claw.
One that checks the location and angle of the spring hole.
One that checks the width of the rim groove.

Sorry. I should have been more specific, a gauge that checks the width and/or depth of the hook.
