Mystery Litton PVS-14, marked as D914A Defender Series

I have a buddy that inherited this from a relative, appears to be a pretty standard PVS-14, although it is not marked as such. It seems to function the same as other known PVS-14 units that I’ve had experience with, and does seem to be autogated, although I’m not 100% sure on this. The tube is decent, has a few dark spots, but nothing obtrusive. There are markings on the body, but they have been crossed out with $$$$$. My online search turned up exactly zero on this specific unit, hoping someone can provide some information on this, thanks. 65830658316583265831

If I had to guess, maybe a civilian spec version of the M914A.

Battery compartment looks just a little different- takes 1 AA right??

2009- it COULD definitely be autogated. What makes you think it isn't?

Yes, it’s a single AA unit. And after watching a few videos and testing with a flashlight, it definitely IS autogated.

If it's working well then it looks like he got a deal.

2009'ish time frame you would have probably seen 57 to 64LP, SN could have ran from 16 upwards of 25-27. Just some of the "average" numbers I remember seeing back then.

There is a big plus for buying a standard PVS14 versus some of these knockoff housings or viper this mum that blah blah blah. That unit is older but WORKS and most everything looks to be standard- so you could likely still find parts and standard accessories should fit it.

Emailing with a guy yesterday and he was looking for some adapter to jury rig some Armasight "NVM14" or something. Even a slight savings on a non standard device/housing usually ends up being futile in the long run as the user is stuck buying non standard accessories, proprietary mounts, etc. all which COST MORE than standard military accessories which can be had cheap.

I remember in the 90's, guys that bought the $499. Russian Breakalotski NV models that were coming in were looking for parts when their units died six months later. Meanwhile the guys that bought PVS5s, PVS4s, even old skewl PVS2s could still (and mostly can still 30 years later) FIND PARTS.

Sticking with standard housing/components is important with firearms as well as NV.
