That's right. One RIFLE. No handguns, shotguns, bows, etc.

You can have one to provide food (protection) for you, in the bush, outback, woods, desert whatever. With solids, softpoints, whatever. Unlimited supply, within reason.
Here are my choices!!
Go for it, fellows!!!

1. Africa; .375 H&H Pre-64 Mod. 70 Winchester. (P64Win)

2. Australia; .300 H&H Mag. (P64Win)

3. Texas; .30/06 Win. Mod 70

4. Alaska; 8mm Rem. Mag. Win. Mod. 70

5. Tha Hood, Anywhere; COOL!! Two choices here!!! AR15/M14 (No need to be brand specific, just the style of weapons)

Oh, and to not get this thing locked, no politics, bs or explaining. Just put your answers. This can be fun!!

I'm sorry didn't mean to get your goat. I honestly can't answer, this kind of question shows that you have put a lot of thought into your question and answers which is more than I have ever done. I think your answers reflect careful thought and research, of which I have not. But to try to join in, my first reaction was some kind of 30-06 semi auto for all of them.

M1 garande 30-06 is the only semi auto 30-06 I know about.

LOL, Scott!! But it was a "serious" question. C'mon, fellows, save me from the likes of Scott!!! Trying to protect himself from an African Elephant charging from 100 yds. to 1 foot away (Ha!!) with a semi-dust, sand coated semi-auto '06 in Africa!!)
This CAN BE FUN!!! NOT FUNNY!!! Oh, shit..

Of the rifles I currently own, I would pick my Rem. 700BDL 7mm Magnum for all but the urban.
I know it's not an elephant gun but there's no way I would ever be in Africa!
For the hood, my AR and an extra large box of Hornady TAP in 5.56 / 75GR.

I don't know about Africa, but in the US its hard to beat the .22 LR.

Africa - in my experience militant folks that went to a different church and drove around blarring religious tunes with a speaker system that filled the back of a pick up truck at 5 a.m. were a bigger threat than any wild game. For Africa I'd go with a PKM in semi (you said unlimited rounds, but I don't want to burn up too many barrels)

Australia - Springfield M1a, one of the m21/m25 varieties

Texas - M40a3

Alaska - .444 Marlin lever action

The hood - Saiga .308 converted

I've thought about a good 'ol .22LR too. But, that was one the premise of ammo supply. Easy to get small woodland creatures from the woods to the kitchen that way. But, if ammo is not an issue, my AR is pretty much built to be a "one rifle" kind of weapon. Good for close quarters, decent out to 300 meters, handy size and I have plenty of magazines and other parts set aside in case Obama makes everything illegal and aliens come down to wake the dead and the government declairs marshal law while they "protect" us from ourselves and the alien zombies.

OK to play the game ONE rifle not depending on where I live but one period !

I took a survival course back in the cold war scare days

the teacher said a good bolt action 308 is best ? his reasons are ammo is anywhere and everywhere should you need it and if you are good you can shoot the guy with the AR type rifle and walk down and take his ! then you can have both :)

I have to agree kinda

It would be a bolt action due to legalities in some of the locations listed.

It would have to be in a powerful caliber available just about anywhere.

It would have to have a scope versatile enough to cover the range from near contact to 400 yards or so.

It would have to have a relatively short barrel to make it handy to use in heavy bush and urban areas.

It would need to have a five round capacity.

It would need to have built in rails for quick-detachable scope rings.

It would need to have iron sights.

It would have to be a CZ 550 FS in 30-06 with a Burris Ballistic Plex 3-9X40 scope.

I am almost there with the same rifle except mine is 6.5X55.

Normally I agree, the M1-A have been clearly created to do God's work -- but have seen Cape Buffalo and Polar Bear up close.
They would be picking their teeth with your ribs and wondering what that slight pain they felt where 168 grain bullets bounced off their hides...

If they are that close as to pose an immanent threat, head shots should be available. Even a few to the body should do.

We are not talking a bolt-action here. ;)

You severely underestimate the ability of those two animals to absorb lead and still kill you before they expire.

Suppressed Ruger 77/22 .22lr with good glass and BUIS.

probably with an 18" barrel.

You severely underestimate good shot placement. :p

If we were talking animals only, then the big bolt guns would be perfect, but 5-6 shot bolt actions are probably not that hot for fighting against Africa's two legged dangerous game...

Check out the FAL used at 0:09 or so...

Not a bad compromise IMO.

If I had to limit it to one only, M14/M1A chambered for .30-06. with plenty of mags.

Mr.Goodtimes
12-28-08, 11:18
m4 carbine, with plenty of mk262. Parts will be plentiful, can pick up accessories or parts, mags etc off of those who cross you. i would want a 458 socom upper too, could handle larger game as well.

and photon plasma cannon with extra stopping power and double penetration... uav jammer would be nice too.

You'd be hard pressed to convince me a regular old AR lower with a:

16" Mid-length upper in .223 with a Aimpoint
18" Mid-length upper in .458 SOCOM with a 1-4 variable optic
24" Rifle-length upper in 6.5 G or 6.8 SPC with a high powered optic

won't fill the bill in all of those situations. If I had to pick just one rifle in all of those locations I would have to go with a .308 FN-FAL with MAYBE a 4x ACOG but probably just plain irons.
