anyone have any experience w/ this rail system? i really like the look of them and i am considering purchasing one, but i have read some negative comments about the locking system and the overall weight. i would really like to get some input from anyone who has had some experience w/ them.

is it a solid rail system or should i look into a larue or dd rail system?

thanks...

KAC makes some outstanding products, and I would be looking for specific reasons why people were complaining about any of their items. I would guess many of the complaints were from people who couldn't afford KAC items, had never used them, or were compensated for badmouthing the company.

Look at who has the majority of the US Military rail contracts..... Its KAC.

If you are looking for another top end rail company, Daniel Defense also has military contracts, including AMU and SOCOM (M4A1 RIS II, MK18, and GL/SSC). I like the DD rails are they are easy to install, and while they aren't cheap, I use one on my duty weapon and am very happy with it.

Another great rail option includes Vltor with the CASV and VIS systems.

There are plenty of good rail manufacturers out there, and most will work quite well.

Since I've got you on the topic, Stick - what are you feelings on Troy's DI Rail?

thanks for the reply stick...

one other question, in your opinion would it be worth the extra cash to purchase and install the kac urx rather than the kac ff? i would be shipping off my upper and have someone else do the work.

thanks...

I heard that a special high dollar tool was needed to install the URX. So how many people besides KAC have this tool?

A few people, including Grant, can install the URX it seems...

Not enough hands on time to make a legit assessment. I've played around with it, and it seems fine, but thats based off a couple minutes of BSing with Troy and Matt while looking at it.

If you can afford the difference, any of the upgrades are nice, but its all a matter of what you are looking to do with the weapon. I would certainly recommend sending it off as opposed to buying the tools for one installation.

Take a look at the total price including rail, installation, shipping both ways etc., and then figure from there (at least thats what I would do).

Just want to add that Midwest Ind. makes a damn fine FF rail system. Easy to install and rock solid. Just looking, I dont see much if any difference in the MI rails and the Troy rails. Troys seem to be about $50 more for the 7" Carbine lenth.

I highly recommend the MI.

When properly installed, KAC RAS free-float rails are rock solid. My rifles are not safe queens and I have never had a problem with my RAS free-float rails.

Anyone know what type of tools it takes to install a KAC FF RAS?

A barrel nut wrench and a strap wrench.

A barrel nut wrench and a strap wrench.

Sorry to clog up the thread; Will the PRI Barrel nut wrench work, and or a standard AR barrel nut wrench?
