Just wondering here....I just impulse bought an excellent condition SP1 Colt Carbine. It's old school, made in 1980, 1/12 twist, aluminum 2 position buttstock, no forward assist etc.

I have yet to fire it, but I took her down for cleaning (appears to have been fired less than 50 rounds) reassembled and loaded her up. I can honestly say this little thing feels better to me than my decked out 6920. Light, handy, simple, literally made for M193 ball, what's not to like?

Anyone else experience this?

Sure.

I like old school, middle school, and new school......

I don't care if it's a 17th Century matchlock musket or a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range, if it goes bang, I like it.

There is something very satisfying and simple about the old SP-1, but if given the option, I'd always go with a carbine with a decent white light and optic on it over one for serious purposes.

Playing around and pride of ownership though, there's something to be said for the old Colt gray....

Thanks again to GotM4 for the hook-up....

I like the old school rifles.

Plain and simple, straight out of the box.

I'll take function over fashion any day.

Dude, post some pics of that beauty!

I must say I fell in love with the old M16A1 when I was back in ROTC in the 90s and our school armory had M16A1s, M14s, M60s, and M1911A1s :D

My first rifle was a SP1 that I bought in 1976 for $250. I still have it.

Small world!!!:D

I also bought my first AR-15 (SP-1) in 1976
and paid 234.00 for it in Abilene, Tx.

I wish I still had it!

I made the mistake of selling the last of my SP-1 Carbines about two years ago. :(

Whoa?

Did you catch the bullet exiting the barrel?

I love pictures like that.

Had an SP-1 carbine in the mid-80s, used it occasionally on raids, etc., as an LEO. Sold it off when I retired and naively thought the need for such a "weapon of mass destruction" had passed.

In the mid 00s I changed my mind and got an A1 style Bushhamster carbine in KISS configuration. I "upgraded" the old CAR-15 idea as follows: 3# trigger, d-fender, 1.5X ACOG, light.

That's all I care to hang on it. Less is more. :D

If I'd have kept the old SP-1 (another dumb sell-off) I would eventually have done the same simple mods and quit.

I have no desire for a 16# carbine.
