My understanding is that the Czech Republic has long been the closest to the U.S. in terms of gun culture among the population. They, Poland, and Hungary the the few European countries that have rejected socialism.

After a crash course in Hitler and Stalin I'm only surprised it took this long.

After a crash course in Hitler and Stalin I'm only surprised it took this long. The amendment might be a new step but it didn't take that long for Chech Republic to have gun rights. They've been issuing carry permits for quite a while and it's not too difficult to get. Guns can be had by anyone over 18 without a criminal record, self defense is an acceptable reason to purchase a gun, carry permits are shall issue! They have weird class license thing and some stuff has to be registered....it's all a little convoluted. If I remember correctly an airgun and a semi auto handgun have to be registered but a semi auto VZ58 doesn't. But overall it's fairly easy to get a gun and a carry permit and not only for citizens but also residents

Good to know, with their history of innovative firearms and foreign occupation, you'd think they'd issue guns like Switzerland. But sounds like they are leaps ahead of most of western Europe so good for them.

A company I worked with had a division in the Czech Republic so I had an opportunity to spend a week with two of our CR employees when they came to the States. Both were great guys and big firearm aficionados- they loved chatting about guns.

Issuing Brens and P-10s to everyone?

Are they open to immigration?

The Czech Republic and Poland are on our lists of escapes if the U.S. completely falls...if they'll take us. The issue of course, is that my family is neither Czech or Polish and don't know any of the language and very little of the culture.

Of course, if we were ever to be expats, we'd probably end up in the Netherlands, as my wife is 2nd generation Dutch and has a decent amount of cousins there. I don't think their gun laws are great, but I think they're better than England or France; you have to be part of a shooting club (not a problem) but can own just about any gun (no "assault weapon" bans or magazine restrictions) you want except fully automatics.

Some country, I think Finland where you can have a collectors license and then purchase any NEW slect fire weapons you wish. So like MP5s with last years date code on them and Stg90 rifles from Switzerland. Ironically I think the only hard things to get are M-16s/M4s.

.

Let me tell you, from first hand experience, none of that really matters.

Language comes quick when you're forced to use it all the time. Hard in the beginning then you feel like you hit a wall but all of a sudden you wake up speaking and even thinking in it.
Culture isn't all that relevant. They're not drastically different countries. You're not going to Saudi Arabia. Youre first priorities are always work, shelter and food. The rest just starts to make sense. We're very good at subconsciously picking up unspoken meanings, vibe or body language.

Also look at Serbia. Open, no mandates, at this point very easy to get in and stay and work as a none resident. If shit here get worse and people start moving out expect other countries to start closing borders or implementing a lottery of some kind. At this point it's mostly unchecked. You're welcomed as long as you're in good standing

Interesting some of the nations on the list:

https://www.liveandinvestoverseas.com/lifestyle/10-countries-easiest-gun-laws-world/

Now that you have a little idea of what you’re up against, here are the 10 countries with the friendliest laws when it comes to guns:

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Honduras
Finland
UAE (United Arab Emirates)
Norway
Panama
Italy
Canada
Czech Republic
Switzerland

Italy kind of surprises me.

ETA: The list should be reversed.

Canada is not so friendly anymore.

Never was. List is very suspect. Technically Mogadishu should be on the list, not that I'd want to live there.

Have you guys thought about Mexico, El Salvador, etc?
One more year, with the border wide open, those places will be empty. [emoji15]

You'd have Firefly for a neighbor as he reenacts scenes from 80s action flicks in his backyard though.

I could see taking to warlord as a secondary career though.

True. Of that list, the CR, Switzerland, Panama and Norway are some of the few places on that list that are actually gun friendly.

From Africa to the Middle East I think most wars are because "it's fooking hot here dammit."
