Was gonna get a ticket to see them in Tampa until I heard he wasn’t gonna be there. Figured it was pretty bad is he was bailing on a tour.

Damn, I knew he wasn't touring, but I had no idea.
Just as a side note, Mr. Watts has been married to the same Woman throughout his career, was known as a sharp dresser and punched out Mick Jagger.
So he weren't all bad.

Brian Jones and Mick Taylor might disagree as to who was first, but hey...

Another piece of my youth gone. R.I.P. Charlie.

In the '80s, intoxicated Jagger phoned Watts's hotel room in the middle of the night, asking, "Where's my drummer?" Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying: "Don't ever call me your drummer again. You're my ****ing singer!"

I can remember around 87 when their "Steel Wheels" tour was expected to be their last.

Hell most of us joked that Keith Richards probably wouldn't survive the 80s.

Another band I never got to see and never will :(

Meanwhile Keith will outlive us all.

Or he'd outlive the cockroaches.

Damn, RIP. Their in their 80s and still touring off music from 50+ years ago, that's the definition of success if I ever saw it.

A lot of people were a bit critical at times because of Mr Watts demeanor, he certainly wasn't the most lively guy backing up a band, but he was steady, damned steady.
If you want to appreciate Charlie Watts listen to his early journeyman work on "Get off my Cloud" then move forward a bit and listen to "Can't you hear me Knockin'", notice the craftsmanship and the learning curve he was on?
Everytime you thought he peaked, he came back with more for you.
He kept up his work with the Stones until his death, but always insisted that,he considered himself a "Jazz Drummer."

Dude was like a human metronome. And laid a great foundation for a great band.

P.2, and no one's caught it yet.

He was the 2nd member of the band to die. Brian Jones died in July of '69.

I believe Mich Taylor has also passed. They brought Mr Taylor in to replace Jones and he really contributed quite a bit.
Some say he left the stones to make a break from some bad habits he had picked up as a Stone.

Watts is 3rd to pass behind Jones & Stewart. 2nd if counting active in band when they died.
