So I have memories of an old black and white WW2 movie. Cant for the life of me remember the title.

It is about American POW's. I believe it is similar to Stalag 17. I vividly remember the ending, the men are all standing in line, knowing they are about to be executed, and the NCO looks down the line and says something to the effect of "Stand up straight". They all suck their guts in and stand at attention. Then it goes off and does the usual montage showing each of their faces.

Hoping someone here can help.

That and it didn't end as described. The Great Escape ended with "The Cooler King" being escorted back to his digs.

I'm no help on the name. I vaguely remember the movie though. I thought the POWs were Brits though. But yeah, the guys are lined up in front of MGs to be executed, proudly come to attention, and the movie ends.

Definitely could have been Brits. Glad I'm not the only one that vaguely remembers it.

Do you remember if the enemy were Japanese or Germans?

To the best of my recollection, they weren't in the pacific. I remember they were outside, standing along an old stone wall, maybe waist to chest high. Top says stand up straight men, they all pop to and it goes off. It wasn't morbid or dark like Come and See. It was more like The Great Escape in terms of levity. But then again, this was something I remember from at least 15+ years ago so they could have been Americans or Brits or Canadians or maybe even Aussies, fighting who knows where. I just saw a movie where some Americans were being tried in Japan and they marched off at the end with a hitch in their step, on their way to be executed, but I wholeheartedly believe that's not it.

Could it possibly been about the assassination of Heydrich and the resulting execution of the population of Lidice?

I’m betting that is it. That is the one I was trying to remember.

The other one I was thinking about but can’t find is when they were lined up in a field and mowed down from the back of trucks.

Could be Hitler's Hangman. I think there were two lesser known films. The other incident would be the Malmady massacre and there are a few films that cover it.

I will look up the first one. The second I believe is The Battle of the Bulge, where they get let out of trucks to walk around but it was a setup and they mowed them all down.
