Finally bought a .45 ACP SIG P 220 a couple of months ago for $ 750. Made in 1986.

In Switzerland the 9mm is prevalent, so you don’t see many .45s

I already had a 9mm (ex Lausanne police)

And a .30 Luger, both with heel mag release

I still need a nice .22

Nice gun. I carried the 220 for about a dozen years as a police officer. Make sure you put a fresh recoil spring in it. That's easiest way to increase the longevity of those guns. We didn't do this as often as we should have and cracked several locking blocks and frames

Nice looking pistol. I remember the P220 being the one gun I really wanted way back then but at the time it was way out of my price range. Those wooden grips look so right on it.

Literally my 1st handgun and still have it as it’s my favorite.

Is .45CP ammo hard to find and/or expensive to buy in Switzerland?

Nice acquisition. A close friend of mine was selling off some guns for his widowed sister a few years ago. Among the collection was a P220 with the "Made in W. Germany" stamp. I snatched it up and it's become my favorite non-1911 style .45. Fantastic shooter.

Not hard to find but more expensive than 9mm, $ 380/1000 vs $ 230/1000

The 220 .45 was the issue weapon for the US Forest Service law enforcement for many years. We had them in 2000. Very nice easy shooting weapon.

Nice guns, I lost bought the Legion 220 but figured it was too much like my 1911 45's. Cool guns though.

I've owned several of these over the years. They never failed me. Currently have the 227.

I have both P220, and P227. I prefer the P227, I also have a well functioning 14 round mag stuck in it.

I recently found a minty W-German SIG 225 and got it for my collection. When I was in my early 20s I really wanted one as a carry piece but they were rare and super pricey around here (especially after the 228 came out and people forgot about the model (until weirdly the Sig 239 came out and everyone remembered they liked compact 9mms).

Those classic West German Sigs were true "bet your life" pistols back during a time when you could pay a lot of money for a lemon, especially in .45.

My German P220 is more of a collection piece...I have shot it but prefer my P229.. that being said I wouldn't mind picking up an LE trade in P220 at some point..

I have a W. German one that I bought new many years back. One of the "best ever" .45 Autos IMO
