View Full Version : Congressional Subpoena power in general and 1/6 in particular

I saw last night that the 1/6 Show TRrial is looking to get the phone records for a woman that wasn’t even at the 1/6 event, but was a Trump orbit person- I forget the exact tie in, maybe a recount organizer? They are asking for AT&T to send over all her phone records, including all texts and phone calls for a 14 month time frame- the election until about now, IIRC.

Does that go through a judge or do they just send it out hot under their authority? I find it hard to see any real judge signing off on that broad of a search on such a tangential figure. Plus, the commissars committee is subpoenaing AT&T, not the person who wrote them. AT&T doesn’t have a real dog in that fight, why would they resist that.

Anyone familiar with the process and any checks and balances to this? If AT&T hadn’t made it public, we wouldn’t even know about it. Can politicians really just get anyone’s phone records- especially texts?

ATT or any corporation will be enforcers for the feds. We’ve seen that with this covid nonsense.

As an individual, couldn’t I say I just wiped the records? Maybe with a handkerchief or something, waving one? There was a subpoena for that, too.

OIC

Then it needs to go to my rules.

To me this is the issue. They aren't coming to the person for the records, they are going to a third party, who doesn't really have a dog in the fight. What does AT&T care?

But again, how do these subpoena procedure work?

Not only are they going after this woman who is a Republican fund raiser, they are going after Constitutional law professor John Eastman.

The fact that the Republicans have not taken actions to grind the Soviet to a stop makes me want to puke.

Republicans are stupid little naive children for the most part, then you got Liz Cheney who needs to be thrown out of the party

Supporting Republicans seems like a mostly wasted effort/expense at this point. Do you see any hope for another party to oppose the Democrat machine?

What party is opposing(for real, not pro wrestling style) the democrat machine now?

I am not aware of any. That's the problem.

You know how you end up with Trump in 2025 as POTUS, keep playing these political apparatchik gulag games. Trump got in not because he had the best plan, he simply fought back and stood toe-to-toe with these a-holes when Romney, Ryan, McCain, Bush et al didn’t defend themselves let alone us.

You know how the left gets the Trump they fear the most- a Trump that acts with imperial authority, the same authority that they are using on us now- keep doing what they are doing. Abuse their power, Ignore the rule of law, have no consequences when they do break the law, and keep calling the increasing number of blacks and Hispanics ‘racists’. Here’s hoping that their echo-chambers end up being solitary confinement.

TRrump needs to win and put Colin Noir in charge of the ATF, Jordan Peterson as Sec ED, that Marine Col as Sec DEF. Have you seen the bat-crap crazy people that Biden puts up for posts? Literal communists, not former communists that know the BS of the collectivist systems.

You assume that the '24 election won't be rigged even before the first ballot is cast...

Him: "This part [excerpt above] shouldn't be a 'the thing the left fears most..' line. It should be everyone. And not a slight on Trump, or DeSantis, or anyone on the right that might (should) win in '24. And it isn't because I don't want my proverbial pound of flesh, there is some just desserts waiting to be served, have to be served. My main concern, even though it isn't in the right's DNA is a hard authoritarian lurch.

It would be harder to do because it isn't what we want, but that risk definitely needs to be acknowledged and kept in mind."

My reply: True... the other factor is we KNOW that WHEN the pendulum swings the Left would use it as an excuse for "All right, Payback Time bitches, Kristallnacht 2.0 here we come!" Personally I could support a President briefly and only NON-lethally (read: "do nothing irreversible") serving them up a heaping helping of their own shit, then citing their own precedents and saying "all I did here is exactly what YOU did at X, Y and Z, can we now agree that such things must forever be off the table to ALL sides?"

The problem is, having a George Washington-esque figure with the restraint to turn it off afterward, and Trump is petty enough I don't see him willingly return to the leash once he slips it.

Unless Younkin’s win in VA was a deliberate ploy by the left to not win an election, if he can win in VA, R’s can win in a lot of places, as long as Trump isn’t the focus.

I totally understand. My Mom won’t lock her doors because she doesn’t want to live in a country where she has to lock her doors; to late- to bad, it’s here. We have gone past zero-sum games to negative-sum games, and its time to make them the losers. What is your friend afraid of? A govt that can spy on everything you do, make your kids take medicine they don’t need, take a huge part of your paycheck to give to others, make people flying here jump through hoops but illegal border crossers get VIP treatment, label you a terrorist if you complain about your daughter being raped, put you on trial for your life if you try to defend yourself- all while lying about you, and call you the most vile things for holding positions that their POTUS held 10 years ago?

We have legit political prisoners being held with out bail in solitary, and political hacks demanding access to your own diary. What exactly is he afraid of losing. F em. They think there is a bogey man out there, time to make their gaslighting reality. Won’t they be surprised. As long as this is a one-way street, they won’t change the traffic flow. RICO their asses. FBI raid their asses in the middle of the night. Have someone in a MAGA hat be their jury foreperson. Go after states for violating 2A rights. Get fed law suits going to get hundreds of millions into the hands of individual rights activist lawyers. They do it all the time - and are going to do it with the million dollar babies that people tossed over the border- the lawfare guys get half.

Still don’t know how they can subpoena your stuff from third parties- and watch the collectivist leftist courts not give the people ‘standing’.

I think his concern, and one I share is, once you let the tyrannosaur out of its cage to dispose of the marauding raptors how do you herd it back in again once the job's done? The only thought that came to mind was to have Congress at the same time as they take the leash off pre-process an Impeachment with a clear message of "either you renounce these powers by noon 90 days from now or at 12:01 we vote to remove you from office."

What other party?

We are a 2 party system, today it is the Marxist V naive little children.

The fact that 80 or 90 Republicans voted in the house to give the CDC intelligence agency like powers makes me want to puke.
