View Full Version : "The Punisher" gets a revamped logo...

I don't really follow comic book characters or super heroes, but I was unaware that the Punisher emblem has become so politicized. The creator seems somewhat butt-hurt.

"In recent years, the Punisher's original symbol has been appropriated by police officers and soldiers, much to the chagrin of the character's co-creator, Gerry Conway. "The vigilante anti-hero is fundamentally a critique of the justice system, an example of social failure, so when cops put Punisher skulls on their cars or members of the military wear Punisher skull patches, they're basically siding with an enemy of the system," he told Syfy Wire in 2019. "He is a criminal. Police should not be embracing a criminal as their symbol."

LOL how many examples of this does it take? A horned god skull? Why don’t they just put 666 across the front.

Well, nobody's gonna "appropriate" that!

ETA:Needs pink ribbons on the horns though.

Has it never occurred to the soy-addled manlet that maybe they've adopted the symbol because THEY see that the system is broken too?

AFAIC, anything that makes left-wing assholes cry like the little bitches they are is *Martha Stewart voice* A Good Thing.

Works for me, the whole Punisher thing was old a long time ago. Never read the comics because I wasn't 10 years old, the 80s film was "ok" and the NF series bored me so badly I didn't make it to the third episode.

Add to the fact that actual grannies were wearing jackets with Punisher skulls and they whole thing was sad.

Meh, couldn't care less. The whole thing is just cringe all around. People who identify with that whole self appointed savior bullshit creep me the **** out anyways. It's like, honestly how much of a narcissistic psychopath does someone have to be to fall into that "sheepdog" mentality and walk around with a punisher skull like anyone wants or needs their help. They're all the same people who interject themselves into situations where nobody wants them because they don't know how to mind their own ****ing business. Then on the rare occasion when some real shit actually goes down where someone might need their help, they're the ones cowering in the corner while an accountant from Omaha saves the day.

The only irony here is that the creator doesn't see the link between his messed up idea of a savior and the psychopathic mentality of people who strongly identify with his characters. It's like dude, if your character is resonating that strongly with people you fundamentally don't like...uh maybe that's because there's something wrong with you and your way of thinking. The only thing more psychotic than wanting to be the sheepdog is wanting to be saved by one.

LOL, not even the right number. It's 616, which is ironically the area code for Michigan, which does lend some credence to the idea. But 666 is just idiot bait for idiots, like Lavey satanism and all the other "stopped being relevant over 50 years ago" stupidity. Occultism is right up there with alchemy, it's for people who can't understand how things actually function. Might as well worry about the Chinese lunar calendar.

Ok, fair enough

so when cops put Punisher skulls on their cars or members of the military wear Punisher skull patches, they're basically siding with an enemy of the system," he told Syfy..."He is a criminal. Police should not be embracing a criminal as their symbol."
So, then the system is good, and doesn't need any critiquing?

Which is it bro?

Also, I hear rumors that the "guns bad" crowd have removed that problematic concept from current representations of the Punisher, allegedly that's why you see him with the short katanas here instead of his usual .45s (or whatever he's packing these days). Because (cue Chris Rock voice) "it takes a REAL man to get close enough to STAB!"

It could be 616 or 666, depending on a few things. Occult and alchemy have the same roots and are the same path. Turning lead into gold is a metaphor for transhumanism.

Didn't Marvel actually start Punny without the skull, get sued by Pendleton and his publisher, and add the skull after losing to try to take it away from Trademark Infringement territory?

No it's not, it was a goal of pre science humans trying to understand chemistry. Levay satanists don't even believe in satan, or any god for that matter. Your constantly referencing them is about as funny as somebody talking about the evil overloard easter bunny but who actually believes it exists.

You might be one of the last 100 people in this country who actually know who Crowley is, the other 90 people are obscure information nerds. Nobody believes that shit actually works, high school girls dabbling in wicca who do sage cleansings and similar silly crap are more deeply invested in the occult than anyone who knows the name Crowley.

That you believe there is some kind of illuminati network of these people who secretly control the world, any hollywood is pretty silly. It's right up there with Falwell warning us about the teletubbies. Money controls hollywood, whatever sells...that is what money tries to do.

The best part about LaVey and his whole "church" is that he lays out in his "Satanic Bible" that the whole speil is basically a con. He totally up front about it being self serving crap, and that the point of his brand of "satanism" is to serve oneself, and if you can pull one over on the other guy then "good for you!" Like Steyr said, he believed in neither a god nor a devil. It was all about playing the con and more or less telling his followers that they were marks. Church of the Carny Sham is most accurate.

On second thought, the best thing about the church of Satan was Zena running around being their spokesmodel back in the 80's before she went all buddhist and lame.

Steyr, don't forget about Ozzy bringing Crowley's name back into the spotlight. I'm not sure Ozzy or many of his fans knew much about "Mr Crowley" other than his name, but he was "stoner famous" and "stoner cool".

I keep providing examples of how the Hollywood machine promotes Gnostic ideas and you keep deflecting them as if they don’t exist. It is time to admit that mass entertainment is used by our government to influence the way we think and the vast majority are unaware. Ask Freuds cousin Bernays.

Me thinks the lady doth protest too much. The point isn’t whether the decadent, Satanist (socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination) believes they are following the left hand path, they already are.

The work of Crowley, the Huxleys, HG Wells, Blavatsky, Mormons, Hollywood, etc. is already baked in, trying to mock it only exposes your complicity. Sorry, but not sorry.

Props for knowing who Blavasky is, bonus points if you know the works of Edmund Kiss without looking it up. As for libertarians (satanists) such as myself, pretty sure my agnosticism eliminates me from that circle and the only thing more hilarious than people who worry about Levay / Crowley are people who actually practice a brand of satanism devoted to the "non belief" in anything. The entire purpose of their existence is rituals dedicated to "non belief" in anything at all and mocking of the church.

It's like me starting a philosophy dedicated to non acceptance of existentialism without providing any other alternative and holding weekly meetings where we make fun of nihilists because we think they are retards. I personally have better things to do with my time.

As for "protesting too much", it's not so much that you've hit close to home so much as when people say "the earth is flat" or "we never really landed on the moon"...even though I know I should just keep walking...sometimes I just can't leave that level of stupid unaddressed.

Gotta love that you threw HG Wells in the mix, shouldn't be surprised since you think Clarke is "the debil" and I won't even ask about Lovecraft. Anyway I've got to go collect my "protecting the secret societies on the internet" paycheck. If you keep exposing everybody I'm gonna have to report you.

Wait a minute, Mormons?! WTF?

Now I certainly have my own issues with the LDS Church. I've got quite the personal grudge. But implying that they are satanists is BS even for me.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled punisher logo bashing. I totally get various high speed guys and other troops adopting the logo. Doing the work of killing the enemy, set against our traditional societal values, certainly puts one to feeling like the anti-hero. Especially in this divisive time when you see attitudes and ROE that seem intent on insuring that the enemy has the upper hand. I can see cops feeling the same way. But when the LARPs and neckbeards started sporting it it was all over.

There is actually an easy argument for that for an adherent of the traditional Christian bible. From the Book of Isiah:

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Joseph Smith taught (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Follett_discourse) that God was once a man, and that man could become a God.

the character and nature of God —

"It is the first principle of the Gospel to know for a certainty the Character of God, and to know that we may converse with him as one man converses with another."[17]
"God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! That is the great secret. If the veil were rent today, and ... God ... (were) to make himself visible ... if you were to see him today, you would see him like a man in form — like yourselves in all the person, image, and the very form as a man."[17]

Humanity’s potential to become Gods themselves. —

Smith discussed the potential of mankind by referencing Romans 8:17, then stating that men may go: "...from one small degree to another, and from a small capacity to a great one; from grace to grace, from exaltation to exaltation ... until (they) arrive at the station of a God."[18]

LDS Church president Lorenzo Snow succinctly summarized a portion of the doctrine explained in this discourse using a couplet, which is often repeated within the church:

As man now is, God once was:
As God now is, man may be.[12][13]

Easy hermeneutical lay up. LDS is space opera left-hand path. Check out Joe Smith’s pre-LDS writing. Wowzers.
