View Full Version : Free Float Rail Alignment with upper
Gents,
Do you recommend buying the Brownells FF Rail Alignment tool, or can it be done with an ADM/LaRue SPR style mount?

if the clamping action is only to secure the rails radially, I assume a LT mount could be pressed into service. but if the clamp actually PULLS the rails to the receiver then an optic mount would seem to prevent the clamping mechanism from working.

I use that tool, but a carry handle does an almost equal job of it.
With a carry handle you can't adjust the height of the rail to the receiver but it works in a pinch almost as good.
Sweet,
I'll try the carry handle before I spend $45 on the alignment tool.
Thanks guys,
dave
Is the knurled ring on the Larue rails large enough to prevent clamping across with a carry handle?
When I installed my Omega rail I just used the carry handle and it seemed to fill the role just fine.

I play with the torque on the barrel nut and then feed the gas tube down. When aligned, it'll naturally find a center at the rear of the upper receiver.
