View Full Version : Raptor SL Charging handle ?
Time to upgrade my Charging handle on my M4
Raptor SL charging handle is the one I have my eye on !
Any thoughts ?
The Raptors are good kit, I use several with no complaints.
Unlike some extended CHs they don’t dig into my Sternum when slung tight and moving around.
I looked at all the high end charging handle’s so many Gaijin but I think I will get the Raptor SL. Thanks for your comment !
If you don’t need ambidextrous, the BCM small latch is also nice, and about half the cost.
Yes I set up my m4 Ambidextrous with safety selector also but BCM has some good stuff
I also went with a Raptor SL on my latest 5.56 upper. No problems noted, and charging was as easy and as smooth as the larger CH (Seekins DNA) I had on my old 300 BO upper.
I have used several Raptor SL's on builds and like them just fine:

I've also used the Raptor LT's as a less expensive option, the LT handles are overmolded with polymer:

IMO, another nice lower profile charging handle is the Geissele Airborne Super Charging Handle. I bought a couple of these on one of the Holiday sales and currently have one on my primary rifle:

Thanks All I have decided on the Raptor SL for my Colt M4
Thank All !

I prefer their standard over the SL. Have two G Airborne I'd like to trade for standard Raptors.
I like the LT over the SL (price), then G, then BCM. After getting "muscle memory" with an ambitious CH, I look ridiculous using a normal one.

On G I seen problems with walking pins working their way out !
I use both the Geissele Airborne and the standard Radian Raptor handles. The perfect CH to me would be if Radian would have a higher gas busting lip in the back like on the Geissele handle and then reduce their overly stiff latch spring to one like on the Geissele handle. I like the shape of the handles just a little more on the Raptor. IMHO, you cannot go wrong with either one.
Thanks for real world user advice
I decided to go with the Raptor SL but the G was 2nd on my list of Charging Handles.
I like both the Raptor and Geissele, But the width is a personal preference thing. I like a medium size Raptor latch better than the slim latch on my Geissele Super Duty.
I like the BCM medium latch and Radian LT. The finish wears off the Geissele rather quickly.
I have a couple SD and Raptor Ambi charging handles, I like them.
I never bought the LT because the polymer coated blah, blah turned me off, for a few bucks more ($10 msrp) I get the Raptor Ambi.
.
Edited to correct the models I incorrectly posted.

I have a couple ST and regular Radian charging handles, I like them.

Raptor Radian LT is my standard CH.

The Ambi and SD are what I have, the LT is the one I didn't by because of the multiple materials used.
Thanks for catching that.
I have two Radian Raptors and I am very pleased. On my next rifle, I may try a Tybee CH. the design is similar to the Raptor, they are made of 6061-T6 aluminum and they are much cheaper.
I dig the Raptor. Best ambi design out there. Really like the oversized, set screw pivot points. No more pin sheer.
I just bought a used CMMG Banshee 9mm. The prior owner had changed out the charging handle, the new one has the wings that are attached by roll pins. Yesterday the roll pin on the left side dropped out.
I will not replace it with anything other than a mil spec charging handle, solid piece that removes one more potential problem.
