I've got an older Daniel Defense rifle that I was looking to remake. It's got the old DDM4 rail and I want to replace it with the MFR. It appears I'll have to remove the barrel to do that. I read that their lpg will not fit under their MFR. Do you know what gas block would?

Removing the barrel is not a necessary step in removing the gas block. But even if you did, it's no big deal at all. Done it dozens of times.

Oh, sorry. I left out an important piece of information. The rifle currently has a front sight post. So I'll have to take that off and replace it with a low profile gas block. I just don't know which one will fit under the rail.

Have you considered shaving the original FSP?

No. I have no idea how to do that. Even if I did I don't know if it would fit under the rail.

https://centurionarms.com/centurion-arms-low-profile-gas-block/ is allegedly extremely low profile, given that it has to fit under a CMR, which are incredibly small in diameter. I use one with my Zev WedgeLock.

https://slrrifleworks.com/gb7-pin-micro-gas-block/ is also very low profile; I use it with my Hodge WedgeLock.

There are several videos on YouTube showing how to do it. Easy enough, and they can be made to be very low profile. Pretty sure it would fit under the slimmest of rails. However, it does require removal of the FSB which can be a bit of a pain to drive those pins out sometimes. Sounds like you're going to be removing the FSB no matter what, so I'd give it a try.

Just click on this link and it will show you a few videos that will walk you through it.

A shaved front sight is probably the best LP gas block. No need to remove it, protect your barrel go to town.

Might not be the best looking but its functional.

I have a BCM gas block under an MFR. It's close on the bottom, but it fits.

You can ask Clint from BRT. Their gas blocks fit under everything I’ve tried.

assuming you have a .750 barrel journal use this gas block. Sadlak GB121 elongated block will cover the front sight pin holes. Sadlak parts are precision made in USA. You can find it at M1ascopemounts.com

Remove pinned fsb/gasblock and chop into low profile. It’s easy if you’re at all technically/mechanically inclined.

Or better option, keep the upper as is and buy or build a new upper in the configuration you want. I find that I become nostalgic for old configurations when I’ve updated uppers.
