Finally bought one. It came from an estate, with case, two mags, a B&T suppressor and two lights / laser sights, none of them who fit the pistol. No manual or test target sadly. Price was $ 1550.

This thing is HUGE

That's awesome. Classic gun. I have one on the way as well - wish I could have also gotten the correct suppressor but I'll settle for my Omega 45k

You need a HK UTL or a HK rail adapter.

The audacity! To keep coming here and rubbing this shit in my face.;)

Nice. I always wanted all of the guns you have! What country is it again? Seems more free than the US.

It's actually a bit of a brick, but from a design standpoint, probably one of the most important firearms of the last 50 years. Introduced the accessory rail, successfully combined Browning and Walther designs in a way never done before, magazine release was pretty revolutionary and probably the first .45 handgun that could be suppressed and didn't begin to destroy itself with every shot. And of course led directly to the USP which took all of those features (except the silent decock which really wasn't very silent) and scaled down to a full size handgun package.

My opinion on the Mk23 is that it is a fully improved 1911 for the 21st Century.

1911: The Sequel.
1911 2: German Boogaloo.

Absolutely stole that fabulous gun. I have always wanted one but never bit the bullet. Have the HK45, P30......but never the holy grail handgun. HK is the goods. Well done.

Very very cool.

I'm willing to believe based on pics. Was last in Europe in 84 so Eastern Europe was limited access.

Thanks,

I thought so but wasn't sure. They used to sell those Swiss Wool Blankets at all the Army Navy stores. :)

First test at 25 meters, 20 shots without and 30 with the suppressor. Only had abt 25 mins range time after coming back from work, and there was a strong rainstorm just before I started. It was still raining a bit, cloudy and very dark despite being only 7:30 pm. Every club member had left so I had the range for myself.

Without the suppressor, the pistol points very naturally for me, and behind the sights you forget about its size. Weight is manageable too. Ok I have large hands, (and body). The gun is very comfortable to shoot, it absorbs recoil nicely, trigger is fairly light (better than my P8) and breaks cleanly. Gun was very accurate, especially considering I had never shot one.

With the suppressor, it gets very nose heavy and my first shots were a bit low. Noise reduction was good, but strangely the first shot was louder and the subsequent ones much quieter. Accuracy was still good and I think it’s the shooter that mostly opened up the groups. I’ll have to spend more time with it.

For target shooting the size / weight really isn't that bad.

Nice find, this pistol has always intrigued me for some reason. Maybe because I remember the mystique about them when HK first released them, designed and marketed as an “offensive handgun”.

People love to poo poo them and every YouTuber who says "crew served handgun" looks at the screen like he is Richard Pryor. But I think part of the mystique is the knowledge that the Mk23 is probably the ultimate hard-use handgun. Other than combat in an acid-tank, the gun is basically so overbuilt it hard to see any non-manufactured scenario where the gun fails.

I would never carry one, but if I was told I was going to be dropped off at the South Pole and the world was about to be hit by an asteroid, I wouldn't mind having one in a drop-leg.

I bought mine to LARP as Solid Snake, and was immediately amused by the “cReW SeRvEd PiSToL” I’d heard all these years.

I picked one up several years ago. It is a blast to shoot with my Ghost45. This thing is almost movie quiet. Only ammo I have found that chokes it is the Magtech +p solid brass. It fails to feed and hangs up before going into battery. Bump it forward and it goes in and fires. Last round always hits the top of the head. That Magtech is hot enough to make you feel the recoil on this beast.

Just thought of this. Why didn’t these have a slide lock?

From what I read the first versions had slide lock, but it was breaking internals or frame when used.

The Dumb Gun Collector

I heard they were concerned that the operators might accidentally leave them on.

EDIT

Right from the source....

"The slide lock was dropped after OHWS PHI for three reasons in fact. One. It was thought that it would reduce the sound signature of the weapon. It did not. The muzzle blast was still louder than the slide movement. Two. It placed the operator at risk should he need a fast followup shot and forgot to unlock the slide lock. Three. It did "cut" into the massive frame insert in the MK23 and in killer endurance tests (> 30K rounds WITH PROOF and +P ammo!!!) cracks were found more in the slide (at the cut out for the slide lock) versus the frame insert."

Yep, all of that, with follow up shots available even when you don't think you'll need them being near the top.

During my time in the firearms business here in Los Angeles California, I got to shoot a couple of MK 23s---very large pistols, and I'm not a small man! Never had the urge to actually own one, but have a full-size USP and a 45C in 45 ACP that I like a lot... Good, reliable pistols...
