I aquired a new HK45 today. After reading the break my HK45 thread and all the other great threads on them I had to have one. I thought I may have issues with the trough in the trigger guard from everything I read and I did. I have large hands and my finger rubbed the trough and whole not painfull it was annoying so I decided to fix it. I'd already read about the bowie mod and figured it couldn't be to hard to do myself. I had modded a Glock 35 trigger guard in the past so I had some idea what I was doing. I'm no David Bowie, but I'm happy with the way things came out.

Very nicely done. I have never had the issue that some have had with the trigger guard but for those who have modified it yours looks pretty much as good as the gunsmith jobs.

It looks factory. I too have big hands, and have the same issue with them that you did. Glad you were able to make yours work for ya!

Not to sound ignorant but what exactly did you do to the guard?

I relieved the trough at the bottom. Heres a pic I found on the net of a factory one.

It lookes the ame as the other one can you be more specific. If you did change it you must have done a bang up jod beacuse it looks great.

I don't have exact measurements for you but I cut the trough down about 3/4 of the way and broke the edges on it and smoothed it out so it dosen't scrape against the bottom of oyur finger. I radiused the mag release slightly as well though that is parobably hard to see. If you look at the first pics you can see how much shallower it is than the factory pic.

I did the same and it feels much better. I will try to get pics up. It was however a slightly intimidating/exciting process: breaking the pistol down, sanding away with rough grit, and assembling the pistol back together. The hardest part I had was putting the trigger reset spring back in place. excatm76, how about you? Any problems during the process?

I did it with the pistol assembeled. I worked the back side of the trigger first and then tied the trigger back with a piece of wire. The hard part was keeping off the trigger. It was intimidating as you say. When I went to grinding on a Glock I thought, well it's cheap, no biggy if it dosen't look great. On this one I kept thinking you can't afford to replace this if you screw up. I did everything but the polishing by hand, you?

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Did it all by hand and in one night. It took about seven hours for me to get the desired "feel" that I wanted for the weapon. I had to finish it in one night beacuase I had the disassembly "fresh" in my head and was afraid I would forget if I went to sleep. This was the first time I had disassembled a pistol that much. So once I started at 9pm, I was "in it, to win it" at that point.

I later took off only the mag release and worked on it some more. That was a bit less stressful.

I already showed some images to excatm76, but for those of you who are interested here's the similar work I did to my HK45:
