The last PDP thread is over a year old so I’m starting a new one.

From what I understand, the lack of lugs on the optics cut has been addressed.

I’m looking at the “compact” version with 15 rounds and 4” slide.

Is there any noticeable muzzle flip over other options like the FN 509?

I love the PDP. Trigger upgrade is a nice upgrade, but not a trigger snob. Using the ACRO mailbox was said to create a problem. Never heard of any problems using standard red dot. There is a new optics cut but hard to figure out what ones have it. May need to call and get a SN range.
When you buy the gun you need to send in a request for optic adapter (free) but it's a hassle that should not exist as 509, M^P Come with the adapters.
I like the 509 and PDP, but the grip on the PDP makes me use it more, it is just more comfortable to me.

I've been shooting mine for awhile, at least +1000rds down range using the 509t and the CHPS plate. So far so good. I have the performance trigger, I just have to install it. I like flat triggers, nothing wrong with the stock one.

Got mine about 6 months ago , but only have about 200 rounds through it ..... my PPQ`s have thousands through them. The gun fits me better than the Q`s and addresses the grip issue of not enough texture . The trigger is better than the PPQ`s , but will be changed to a flat trigger as I just prefer a flat trigger .
Put a Holoson on it and no problems with the plate or sight ( no lugs ) . My issue is that I hit the mag release fairly regularly . Probably just my grip that needs some adaptation since I`m used to the paddle mag releases on the M1 series .
Overall , I really like it over my PPQ`s .

The trigger on the 509 is fine for me. It isn’t the greatest ever but it’s better than most others I’ve handled. Maybe I got lucky. I wasn’t crazy about the grip but I’ve added Talons and it’s better.

My biggest gripe is the ambi mag release hitting the knuckle of my firing hand. Non ambi mag releases are easy enough to find though.

The PDP optic plate is a huge hassle. I could order one so there’s that. I’m also going to want suppressor height sights. So the cost difference on the 509 MRD isn’t looking as bad and it would be ready to run.

I’ve had a PPQ M2 for a few years and a PDP compact for around a year and a half.

I’ve never shot a 509 so can’t compare the two. However, the ergonomics of the Walthers fit my hands better than Glock, S&W, Sig, etc. I wear a medium glove. You have to keep your dominant thumb high or you will hit the mag release.

It does have more muzzle flip than some others but about the same as an HK VP9 or Sig P320. The recoil/flip is also different because - at least in the PPQs - the slide cycles fast.

I don’t mind the mild finger groves on the PPQ but glad they got rid of them on the PDP. I also appreciate the new grip texture.

I do like the fantastic trigger (for a factory striker gun) and the ergos. Those are the reasons I switched over.

I've been a Walther guy since the PPQ M1 was released. I've pretty much switched over to all PDPs at this point. Walther did a good job addressing perceived issues with the optics plates and having much better after market support from the get go. I don't shoot other pistols often, so I can't compare the muzzle flip to anything. I don't find it excessive and can track my dot without issue. The ergos are great, the trigger is phenomenal (their upgraded trigger is even better), and the new texturing is a huge upgrade over the PPQ.

If you decide to go with the compact, wait a bit for the compact Pro version to release. It'll include the upgraded trigger, a flared mag well, three mags with appropriate base plates for the mag well, and a threaded barrel for an additional $125-$200 depending on where you purchase it. The trigger alone is $180 bought separately, and I believe the barrel is $250. The Pro versions are an incredible value.

JediGuy , yes , I like the new slide design over the PPQ ..... the deeper serrations don`t slip when my hands are sweaty like they do on my Q`s . Once I cure my grip problem where I keep hitting the mag release with my support hand , the PDP will be a good edc for me .
Sorry about the late reply .... I have very limited internet and cell where I am now .

I agree 100%. While the PDP slide is thicker and more square, it's much more practical and easier to use, especially with a RDS mounted.

Got this in an email from C&H Precision. I have a version 1 from them with a 509T. Maybe 600 rounds, no problems.

I know Bill Blowers really likes his steel frame versions. I'm pretty sure the first PDP I saw/handled was at one of his 2 day pistol classes. I'm pretty much married to my Glocks but if I was going to buy another striker fired pistol it would a Walther PDP in some form. Probably the nicest factory striker fired trigger I've ever come across.

Maybe I’m just turning into a grumpy old man, but I like my PPQ’s slide appearance...and I kinda hate the idea of buying new holsters, even if the PDP slide is objectively better. Hmm.

That’s kinda where I am now in the event I want to carry it and not print. It would be nice if they offered the option with a thinner slide and no doubt the aftermarket will pick up. It’s not a good thing that I’ve seen a couple of guys have holsters that have fit a lot of big guns and the slide on the PDP got stuck.

PDP v2's slide cut resembles that of a MOS Glock, except it's deeper. The footprint is nearly identical, PDP plate is slightly thicker with a deeper channel.

V2's cut is an improvement over v1 that has no channel to prevent lateral shift, or lugs to prevent the plate from rotating, a v1 plate needs to be fairly tight to limit the amount of rotation in the cut until the screws are installed. But screws aren't very good at this.

I do wish Walther simply adopted the MOS footprint, they're very similar already, why not use it and all the plates already developed for the MOS, we have RMR, RMRcc, DPP/EFLX, and ACRO/MPS plates for MOS. That said, Walther has been extraordinarily helpful in helping us with what we needed to get the v2 plates going, we have never received so much support from the gun manufacturer as we did from Walther.

A Pro version? I thought Walther cared. Turns out all they want is my money.

The install is easy. The uninstall of the old one was a bear. I couldn’t hammer the slide stop pin out. I had to use an 8lb dumbbell and use it with a controlled drop on a punch to get the dang thing out. Other than that, it’s a breeze.

C&H precision has a picture on their website that shows the difference between the PDP slide cuts on PDP 1.0 & PDP 2.0. to get to it go to any of their PDP plates and it's an optional image. I copied the address for the 509T plate.
I first show this in Public Service Announcement email they sent out.

There have been enough reports on WaltherForums of broken frames while attempting to get the slide release levers out that I’d hesitate to ever do it myself without lots of research. There’s some mention of doing it with the mag inserted so the levers are in an extended position but I’m not sure how that helps.

Yeah, inserted mag helps. The best way to avoid cracking anything is having something supporting the underside of the frame like an armorers block or even just a roll of tape.

Guys , getting the slide release lever out isn`t really that difficult . I use a roll of painters tape to set the frame on and go from there . Look closely at the slide lever from the inside . There`s a small hook that will stop it from coming out if you just pound on it . Raise the lever slightly as you push it out and it comes right out without a lot of fuss . I`ve done this about a half dozen times switching triggers between my PPQ`s .
You might also go to the Walther Forums and look in their stickies . They have several really good videos on that .
However , I can`t comment on the PDP as I haven`t taken mine down that far , but will soon when I get the new trigger , but the procedure should be about the same ..... I hope .

Installed the trigger today, I watched the Walther video with LAV, which was pretty good on demonstrating on what and how much force to use on the forward roll pin. I have a set of the Grace USA short punches that came in handy to start the slide release pin, other than that no problem. Its a nice trigger, weight reduction is modest, but the reset is superb IMO. It was the tighter pin of them all but nothing like the 509 that using a jig and a sledge to to get it out.

I actually found the front roll pin to be the "harder" of them all to go back in. I found the Walther video good, because I could get a feel from the armourer replacing the front pin on how much force was needed.

I've been carrying 4" full size on duty for several months now. I have the first gen version with the older style optic cut. We have had range days where we did one handed racking. No issues with losing zero. Stock trigger is great. I have the primary arms 507 green dot with the acss reticle. Optic has been. Great as well with no issues. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220816/c060d59649f13700855c02e5c93cd5a3.jpg
