View Full Version : Does anyone make a 2" barreled AR?

I'd like to EDC an AR platform appendix carry. This will be used for self defense to protect me in an emergency and a gun that fits on my body beats a gun in the safe.

I don't want a pistol caliber or a handgun so don't suggest anything like that. The only posts allowed in this thread are that a 2" barrel on an AR15 is an acceptable weapon for defending myself against a lethal threat and where to buy one.

Thanks. Stay safe gents.

Funny that your sig line talks about the loudest doing the least and here you are yelling nonsense from the mountain tops.

Nah, man. Pretty sure this is a legit question.

Sucks you can fit two whole inches in your pants. Mine will barely fit a 1” AR…

Wikipedia and a YouTube video says it should work fine.

It’s still within fragmentation range out to 1.7 meters so it’ll be more than enough for self defense.

Thanks. This is exactly what I was looking for. The fact that the projectile sticks out beyond the weapon surely will cause more lethality and be more compact than say a 3” barreled 9mm.

Yes. Civillian gun fights are 3 rounds at 3 feet in 3 seconds.

Yeah I saw a guy on Youtube and he said it was acceptable for a PDW. Good enough for me. I mean we are talking arm's length distances here so its more than acceptable.

Gotta take a break from this thread now though guys - Time to mow my front yard with a weedeater. I don't want to use a lawnmower because sometimes I have to trim around a bush and it's easier to stick to one implement.

Something that short, I’d opt for 6.5 Creedmoor.

You might be on to something here. .338LM might still slap hard out of a 2” barrel.

I took the opportunity to whip up a quick engineering concept drawing. I think this could be the next big thing in personal defense.

When your gas block hangs out further than your barrel, the barrel might be a little short.

Yeah a weed eater may not be the best tool for the job, but it's better than a set of hedge trimmers.

That looks deadly. And I mean from the operator's side...

Yeah, but no forward assist. What do you do in case you need the non-existent forward assist...pull the bullet forward by the exposed tip?

No, you're going to get fudds writing to the atf to see if this is 'legal'.

I thought this was going to be humor thread but I was sadly mistaken

Genius. Should be able to run 5.56 or 300BLK without changing uppers or anything else. Hell, you could mix em in the same mag.

Genius.

For situations that require the smallest package, check out the surefire micro. Minimal size, but still reduces sound. Its likely sound-wise comparable to a 5" but only sticks out 3" past the muzzle without actually adding barrel length.

You forgot the silencer

With that design, surely you could come up with a 2 liter pop bottle adapter. Now it's "ninja" tactical.

That’s a solid plan man.

Beware the man with only one lawn care tool: he might know how to use it.

I think you should consider a scythe though instead of a weed eater. Scythes don’t run out of gasoline or batteries.

THAT'S what was missing. Maybe a 9 o'clock mount (you can get one of those dual rails that attach to the front sight) with integral red laser. On the 3 o'clock side maybe an offset mini red dot.

I've seen that one before I think it was posted on the Gunsmithing Hall of Shame thread. I think it's funny that that little 5.56 pill is just gonna poop out of the gun without even ever touching any rifling.

I’m fascinated to know how far the bullet goes before falling to the ground?

Otherwise I have no use for this thread as I’m already packing 2” in the front of my pants.

I would also be very interested to see the velocity as well as accuracy and trajectory. I'm sure all are horrendous. It would make a good slow mo guys video.

Wait a tic... this doesn't technically have a barrel, just a chamber. It can't be an SBR without the "B". Can I put a stock on it?

I haven't posted in a long time, came by to shill in the Technical threads (even though I don't work for said company), maybe sell something, and then find this gem of a thread.

This post reminded me of the Franklin Reformation. https://franklinarmory.com/reformation-rs11-upper-receiver/

Its the Taint of the AR world. The Gooch upper. A Grundle slinger. (Thats the best I have)

I'm out, be back in a few years.

Oh yeah I remember that thing, it was hyped up for quite a while before being revealed and everybody was wondering and taking guesses which feature made it legal to have a short barrel without being designated a SBR. Turned out it was straight cut rifling and the thing has about the same accuracy as a Brown Bess.

Our very own, Will Brink, does an interview with Ash Hess of KAC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygLIA4qDAk8

At the 41 minute mark, Will and Ash discuss the merits and possible uses of the SIG Rattler 5.5" PDW for which SOCOM recently put in an order. The whole interview is interesting though, and Will does a good job hosting. Worth a watch or listen.

Thanx for the support. Please hit the like button and leave a comment, as that has major impacts on ranking. There's full time stamp below the vid for those who want to target a specific topic, and SBR, PDW, etc time stamped.
