Browsing various websites, Glock is still making new G17 Gen 3's for the market. With Gens 4 and 5 widely available, what does the Gen 3 have to recommend it?

Probably more aftermarket parts & accessories than all the other Gens combined! They had the RTF grip/texture if ya liked it, I have one and really like it. Finger grooves if your into that, & even though I have big hands they were never a problem for me. And ya can probably pic one up for less than the Gen 5s, especially used! That's my thoughts, I'm sure others will be along.

Gen 3s are on the California DOJ approved list.

Yep. And a lot of guns are sold in California.

This is it. Gen 4s are being discontinued as far as I know.

That is it in a nutshell

The only glock that can be sold new in California is gen 3. 4 is being discontinued except for LE contracts that specify it, the new standard will be gen 5.

The recoil spring on the Gen 3 G17 is easier and cheaper to change out when it needs replacing.
