Hey M4C. First made my account almost 13 years ago... Went back and forth on AR's vs. AK's and ended up going with AK's. Still always knew I'd end up getting an AR eventually. With that said, my dad picked up a KAC SR-15 Mod 2 last year, so that made a great excuse to finally get one.
Build Details:
Back when I was doing research in the late 00's LMT and KAC were high on the list. Also, from being on here Daniel Defense and BCM jumped on the radar as well. KAC and LMT factory rifles have been kind of hard to get, so I decided to piece together a build.
Ended up selecting a LMT Mars-L stripped lower to start out the assembly. From there I wanted a LMT 13.25" Monolithic upper, but they've been unavailable until very recently. Decided I was just going to go with a standard upper and had a DD RIS II rail picked out. I then noticed some places had the KAC URX 3.1 13.5" rails back in-stock and ended up going that route. After that the build was "loosely" based off a URG-I build, but LMT instead of Colt and KAC instead of Geissele.
Ultimately decided to go with a DD 16" Mid Gov barrel vs. a p&w 14.5" one. Upper was sent off to D.Wilson for URX 3.1 assembly and the Centurion Arms gas block was taper pinned and double dimpled for set screws (highly recommend D.Wilson's services). For now I will be using the LMT A2 F/H until I decide on going suppressed. I also went with a ALG ACT trigger and may end up upgrading to a SSA in the future. Went with DD fixed sights and I will likely pick up an EOTech, or PA 1x Microprism (would go Aimpoint, but I have some astigmatism). Will also upgrade the Polytac LED light and Fenix mount for a Surefire M600U w/ DS-SR07.
