View Full Version : What would you build? Blank canvas KAC build

Been sitting on this receiver set for about 3 years now. I want to build it into something but I never could figure out what I wanted to do. I was thinking of trying and build a 5.56 M110 inspired build but I don't know anymore.
Short/long doesn't matter...What would you guys suggest? I've kept these together because it's the tightest upper to lower fit I've come across.

Lately I've been thinking of a burnt bronze cerakote lower and a gold/tan cerakote upper for a SCAR look. :confused: :meeting:

Only you know what you need to add to your inventory. Do you need an SBR for home defense? What about a 13.5” to 16” general purpose rifle? Maybe you could use a 18” to 20” SPR/DMR. Determine what you need, and build accordingly.
Personally I’d build another one of these. The guy I traded it to won’t sell it back to me.

That's a beaut! I have more 10.5s than anything. But then again that is my favorite barrel length. I need a 14.5 pinned and welded blaster but I think I will make a Geissele out of that. I'm thinking this KAC needs to be either a 16" or 18" scoped build.

Sounds like Hammer is on the ball with a 18” to 20” SPR/DMR. I would spend zero time and money changing colors to achieve a "look."

That’s a Centurion MK12 barrel under a 13.5” URX 3.1, it wouldn’t be hard to replicate as the parts are still available (albeit on back order). I’m going to build another one someday, but I’m contemplating using a URX 4 on the next go around.
By the way, what upper did you pair with that lower? I had a stripped KAC lower at one point, but I couldn’t find an upper that fit as tight as I prefer so I sold it off.

Do you have a picture of the whole gun? I’m curious if that’s a URX 3.1 or URX 2.

It's actually an Aero upper. Out of 4 that I tried this is the only one that was tight. The only other upper I've ever had luck with fitting a KAC lower tight is my 10.3 Colt upper.
I’d use a centurion MK12 barrel and. Geissele 15” MK8 rail.
There's a place to get milspec Colt parts, but I'm having a senior millennial moment here and can't remember the name. Anyways, someone will likely know who I'm talking about. But they have factory Colt parts with class 3 threads. If I were going to build an AR these days, that's the direction I would go. Just send them that upper and have them build it out for you.

I can't explain why, maybe because we are about to have our 4th kid but about a year ago or a little longer baby shit brown (AKA peanut butter, AKA Coyote) became my favorite color. So I believe this will be the route I go.
I'm going to have to look up what exact color KAC goes with for the receiver coating and small parts. I've been sitting on a Taupe (actually I thought it was a discontinued color? I'll have to dig it out) pistol grip. I guess that can be the first part towards the build.

I think our buddy bugged KAC to give him the color info... maybe Pappabear can expound.

To be completely honest, I'd build that lower as a 10.3 (maybe URX4 of Centurion rail), party with that.
Take the lower that was currently under that, build that upper into a nice precision carbine (I tend to default to Centurion barrels and URX's when I'm indifferent about cost for a reason).

Thanks for posting! That’s a fine rifle for sure, I’m guessing 18” rifle length barrel? KAC Taupe is a very distinct color, how did you replicate it?
16" barrel. Mod 0 Sr15. Those had color options from taupe, with silver and green being limited runs

Can you even get that rail anymore?
You would have to contact sales or send a message to Jack on here. They are a pain in the ass to install. You need an URX barrel nut wrench and modify the gas block to work to fit underneath the rail if you are using a carbine length gas system.

Urx iii & Triarc track 2.0 barrel 13.9" would look and shoot good based on molons recent test.
It would be a great mid- range rifle
