From today's DoD contract announcements. I'm guessing that Lightforce and Nightforce are the same thing or at least closely related?

Lightforce USA, Inc., Orofino, Idaho, was awarded a Indefinite Delivery/ Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) order (H-9240322-D-0009) with a value of $17,674,500 for Squad-Variable Powered Scopes (S-VPS) and Precision-Variable Power Scopes (P-VPS); both standard and long range. Along with these scopes, USSOCOM will have the ability to procure parts. This contract will fulfill the full operational capability (FOC) requirements for all U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) components. Fiscal year 2022 operations and maintenance funds in the amount of $1,085,462.00 were obligated at time of the award. The contract was awarded in accordance with 10 USC 2304 (c)(1) as implemented by FAR 6.302-1 Only one responsible source.

Lightforce Group out of Australia is the parent company of the US based optic subsidiary Nightforce. Lightforce USA = Nightforce.

So the 1-8 ATACR along with the 5-25 and 7-35 ATACR?

This is correct. The manual that came with the Nightforce scope that I bought in 1998 has Lightforce USA printed on the back as the manufacturer.

So, now SOCOM will have NF, S&B, and Vortex from which to choose?

This is more stupidity. Put the money into GOOD AMMO. (Mk 262) The ACOG will more durably reach 600 yards with the dumbest of asses on the gun. Mild brain cells gets you to 900 yards.

USSOCOM end users have mostly chosen LPVOs over ACOGs at this point. Their needs aren’t defined by the flat range.

USSOCOM end users are qualified to know their needs.

They also have 262 available already. And we’re talking about more than just hits on big steel targets, they use optics for observation and PID all.the.time so beyond 4x helps.

ATACR 1-8 with an offset MRDS would be just about the perfect optics package for a general purpose carbine.
