I'm not sure of compatibility between the two as I'm still stuck in Gen 3 world. TIA

Not sure. I think so.

I tried a G32 Gen 3/4 .357 auto barrel in a G23 Gen 5 and although it "fit" the hood of the barrel was NOT filling in the ejection port of the slide. It didn't seem right and I did not fire it.

Normally Gen 2-4 .357 / .40 barrels are perfectly swappable. (G27/G33, G23 / G32, etc.)

No.

The holes in the back of the slides do not line up with the metal parts on the frames. Just tried G3 slide to G5 frame & vice versa. Fail on both counts.

Gen 3 are awesome. Rock it until it dies. I prefer Gen 5, but the reliable 3s are perfectly fine. Save the $ for more ammo to practice and plink with.

Worth the $ to buy a Gen 5 if you need another gun or the grip is too big. Not enough difference/improvement to upgrade if you don't need another pistol. Unless you really need the slightly smaller grip.

Gen 5s are notably more accurate than my Gen 3s, though round count may be part of the difference. It's significant though. 4 shooters, same results.

Swap the back plates, the Gen 5 will fit on the Gen 3 Slide. Same as Gen 4 to Gen 5.

Did that in my Glock Armorers Recert class. Instructor said it wasn't possible, said here watch this. Which then we had to go outside to the ILEA Academy Range and test it. Functioned 100%. Instructor, being a Glock employee, made note of that and said that would be something he'd be telling everyone now.

The barrels are compatible. I regularly use my Gen 4 barrel in my Gen 5.

The 17 gen5 uses a different barrel than gen1-4.

The 19 should swap across all gens.

Not the 17 barrels, The 17 gen 5 has the same locking block size as the 19. Where as a 17 gen 1/4 has the standard locking block size. Tried them with a 17 gen 3, 4 and 5. None of the barrels I had would fit in the gen 5 17.

gotcha, all I own is G45's for Gen 5 guns. Makes sense why those barrels work in Gen 3 19 and PSA Dagger slides.

Does a 5th generation G17 barrel fit a 3rd generation G19 slide? How about 5th gen G22 barrel and 3rd gen G23 slide?
